EFFICIENT PUBLIC TRANSPORT WILL REDUCE TRAFFIC CONGESTION – DPM

Public transport services must be used efficiently to reduce traffic congestion in city centres, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

He said this includes suggestions to local authorities to add the number of special routes for bus services and to expand the use of contra lanes in certain areas, especially around the Klang Valley.

“That means increased promotion of public transport use that will reduce cost, or are low-cost with more destination routes.

“Also, in terms of special lanes for buses, that will be expanded,” he said at a media conference after chairing the Cabinet Committee Meeting on Traffic Congestion (JKMKJR) No. 1/2023, which was also attended by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who is the chairman of its technical committee.

Ahmad Zahid said the Transport Ministry has taken a quick win approach and strategy towards solving traffic congestion, especially in the capital, without any additional allocation from the government.

The approach includes improving and expanding stage bus services, pedestrian access and facilities to bus or train stations and traffic management that prioritises public transport, he said.

Focus will also be placed on developing a sole integrated schedule information and management system for the Klang Valley, improving comfortable and safe bus stops with bus information systems, adding alternative public transport such as on-demand services, e-hailing and integration of bus and train transport modes, he added.

RMAF CONDUCTS INTERNAL PROBE ON ALLEGED BULLYING OF PERSONNEL – MOHAMAD

The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is conducting an internal investigation into the alleged bullying of an RMAF trainee at a training centre in Kuantan, Pahang.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the probe was being carried out after the trainee’s father lodged a police report following the incident at the centre.

“The police have entered the premises recently to investigate and RMAF will fully cooperate on the matter.

“Besides the police, RMAF has also initiated its own internal probe on the report. RMAF did not receive any report on the bullying incident. The victim’s father only lodged a police report.

“The police will ensure that the bullying case is thoroughly investigated and stern action is taken against individuals found guilty of violating discipline and standard operating procedures at the training centre,” he told a press conference at the Defence Ministry and Kementah Camp Aidilfitri Open House here today.

Earlier, a post went viral on social media in which a woman claimed that her younger brother had been a victim of bullying at an air force training centre.

In the post, she claimed that her brother was physically and emotionally assaulted, which left him traumatised and frightened.

Meanwhile, the Defence Ministry, in a statement today, said that it had taken note of the matter.

It said the RMAF had given its full cooperation to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the complaint was currently being investigated by the police.

“The ministry stressed that there is no compromise on any misconduct when it comes to discipline violations, order, crimes and legal issues such as bullying and others related to the Malaysian Armed Forces.

“Severe action in accordance with existing laws and regulations will be taken against any officer or personnel found to be involved and guilty,” the statement said.

Accordingly, all parties are urged not to speculate so as not to prejudice the case, which is currently being investigated by the police

“I will also take the opportunity available through the federal government’s special allocation, worth half a billion to the state of Sabah, through the development of improving the defence of the Sabah-Indonesia border,” he said.

SULTAN OF SELANGOR RECEIVES RM56 MLN ALLOCATION FOR ALLOWANCES OF IMAMS, RELIGIOUS STAFF

Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today graced the ceremony for the handing over of an RM56 million allocation from the Federal Government for the allowances for imams and other religious staff including Al-Quran And Fardhu Ain (KAFA) teachers in Selangor for this year.

A mock cheque was presented by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar to the Sultan of Selangor at the ceremony held at Istana Alam Shah, here.

The sultan’s private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani in a statement said His Royal Highness thanked the Federal government for providing the allocation.

Mohamad Munir said previously, the allowance payments for imams, ‘bilal’, ‘siak’, takmir and KAFA teachers for states were sent to the Menteri Besar.

“However, when the chairmanship of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) (which was previously held by the prime minister) was taken over by the Ruler, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) coordinated the delivery of allowances for imams, bilal, siak, takmir teachers and KAFA teachers to the states through the respective Rulers as the Head of Islamic Religion, to be channelled to the state’s Islamic Religious Department,” he said.

He said it was hoped that the latest method of handing over the funds for allowances would smoothen the process and avoid it from being politicised.

Earlier, Mohd Na’im in his speech at the ceremony said the Federal government had allocated a total of RM56,412,369.60 to Selangor for this year, and the funds would be channelled to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department through Jakim.

He said the allocation covered the remuneration for 752 imams at the rate of RM850 per month and the allowance of takmir teachers at the rate of RM900 per month involving 242 teachers.

The allocation also includes a special one-off payment of RM600 and a Social Security Organisation (Socso) contribution of RM232.80 per year for a total of 2,482 individuals comprising imams, bilal, siak and takmir teachers.

The provision also involves an allowance payment of RM1,261.35 per month as well as a special one-off payment of RM600 to 2,800 KAFA teachers.

ORANG ASLI VILLAGERS COMPLAIN OF STENCH FROM GARBAGE PILES ON ROAD

Garbage which overflowed from a dumpsite near the Orang Asli settlement in Kampung Pasir Linggi, Pos Lebir here has caused the area to be filled with a foul odour, according to villagers.

Kampung Pasir Linggi headman Harun Ismail said they had complained to the authorities several times about the piles of rubbish that were almost blocking the main road.

“This problem of garbage piles does not only occur after the festive season but also on normal days. I once took photos of the situation last February, and it continues to this day,” he told reporters when met at the disposal site in Kampung Sungai Sam, Dabong today.

The villagers said they knew of the existence of the 20-year-old dumpsite but were unhappy that the rubbish had overflowed into the middle of the road.

A 42-year-old resident, Jamal Alias, said apart from the stench and unsightly garbage on the road, villagers also had to bear with air pollution due to open burning at the dumpsite.

“The piles of plastic bottles and food waste also attract stray animals such as dogs and wild boars. The place is also full of flies and maggots,” he added.

Meanwhile, Paloh state assemblyman Amran Arifin said his office would help to clear the rubbish on the road and trim bushes in the area for the convenience and safety of road users.

“Bulldozers will be used for the clean-up on the nine-kilometre stretch. The operation will begin on Thursday and is scheduled to be completed in three days,” he said.

Nanox.ARC Imaging System Receives FDA Clearance, Pioneering a New Era in Medical Imaging

  • Nanox.ARC presents high powered digital X-ray tubes for 3D tomosynthesis imaging
  • Nanox.ARC could help expand the availability of medical imaging

NEVE ILAN, Israel, May 01, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — NANO-X IMAGING LTD (“Nanox” or the “Company,” Nasdaq: NNOX), an innovative medical imaging technology company, today announced that it has received a 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market the multi-source Nanox.ARC, including the Nanox.CLOUD, its accompanying cloud-based infrastructure. Nanox.ARC is a stationary X-ray system intended to produce tomographic images of the human musculoskeletal system adjunctive to conventional radiography on adult patients. Representing a major advancement in X-ray technology, Nanox.ARC is a multi-source digital 3D tomosynthesis system that utilizes novel, cold cathode X-ray tubes, which the Company intends to offer using an innovative pay-per-scan business model.

The FDA cleared Nanox.ARC for use in professional healthcare ‎facilities or ‎radiological ‎environments, such as ‎hospitals, clinics, imaging ‎centers, and ‎other medical practices‎ by trained radiographers, ‎radiologists, and physicians, and has the potential to increase availability to medical imaging around the world, once approved by local regulatory authorities and deployed at scale.

The Company received 510(k) clearance to market its single-source X-ray device, known as the Nanox Cart X-Ray System, in April 2021. The multi-source Nanox.ARC has the ability to reconstruct a series of 2D projection images into a stack of tomograms (or slices) of the imaged object, forming a 3D visualization. This visualization reduces the effect of overlying structures and provides in-depth information on structures of interest.

“Today’s milestone is a significant achievement as part of our commitment to make state-of-the-art medical imaging technology available for use in a wide array of professional healthcare facilities and other medical practices,” said Erez Meltzer, Chief Executive Officer of Nanox. “Our vision is that Nanox’s innovative technology and approach not only have the potential to increase access to medical imaging, but also to shift healthcare from reactive to proactive—enabling early detection and prevention of diseases.”

Following this clearance, Nanox will continue to work with the FDA to pursue additional regulatory clearances and intends to expand clinical indications. The U.S. regulatory clearance also paves the way for Nanox.ARC to be approved in other countries that are FDA-clearance-based markets. Other applications will be available in other markets per local regulatory approvals.

Medical imaging systems are an important early detection tool that are key to initiating early treatment, improving health outcomes, and ultimately saving lives. Approximately two-thirds of the world’s population does not have access to medical imaging systems, according to the World Health Organization (WHO),1 while many people with access face substantial wait times for scanning, potentially delaying diagnoses. By introducing an innovative pay-per-scan business model, Nanox offers an opportunity to help expand these resources to more healthcare settings.

While access to medical imaging is relatively high in the U.S. compared to many other countries, medical imaging can still be limited in certain areas, particularly in rural or low-income areas where facilities and equipment may be scarce. For example, compared with patients at urban hospitals, emergency department patients in rural hospitals are 7% less likely to receive advanced imaging, while patients at critical access hospitals are 18% less likely to have advanced imaging.2

“The FDA clearance of Nanox.ARC represents an important breakthrough and represents an opportunity to increase the availability and accessibility of medical imaging in the United States and worldwide,” said Geoffrey Rubin, MD, MBA, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Arizona and a member of Nanox’s Advisory Board. “Medical imaging is essential for detecting, diagnosing, and managing disease, guiding treatment decisions for improved health outcomes. Nanox.ARC has the potential to be a cost-effective and scalable imaging solution in healthcare settings that would otherwise be unable to deploy traditional medical imaging equipment.”
