Vietnamese lychees sold at Thai supermarket

Luc Ngan lychees from the northern province of Bac Giang were officially put up for sale at Central Retail’s Tops Food Hall supermarket at CentralwOrld shopping centre in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 12.

Earlier, a batch of three tonnes of Luc Ngan lychees were exported by Central Retail to Thailand on July 10.

They are now sold at 259 THB per box, or 173,000 VND (7.5 USD) per kg.

On May 16, Central Retail Vietnam and the Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee signed a cooperation agreement on lychee consumption this year, towards consuming about 300 tonnes.

Luc Ngan lychees were exported to Thailand for the first time on June 30, 2017. The fruit has since then become popular in the country.

Lychee is grown in many localities in Vietnam, mostly in the North, with Bac Giang known as the country’s lychee growing hub.

The province harvested 199,500 tonnes of lychee in 2022 and earned nearly 6.8 trillion VND from lychee sales and support services, according to the provincial People’s Committee.

Bac Giang lychee has affirmed its brand and value in many countries and territories around the world with 75,900 tonnes shipped abroad, making up 38.1% of the accumulative sales./.

AMM-56: Vietnamese FM meets Indian, Australian counterparts

Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son had separate meetings with Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs Penny Wong on the occasion of their attendance at the 56th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM-56) in Jakarta, Indonesia on July 12.

Meeting Minister Jaishankar, Son hailed India for supporting ASEAN in maintaining its solidarity and central role

The two ministers spoke highly of the strong developments in the bilateral traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership, especially in economy-trade. They agreed to thoroughly prepare for the exchange of delegations at high level and effectively deploy existing cooperation mechanisms such as the 18th Joint Committee Meeting.

In order to further reinforce economic and trade collaboration, they pledged to work with ASEAN member states to review the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA).

On the occasion, Son suggested that both countries consider advancing bilateral economic and trade agreement negotiations. He also proposed India encourage big corporations to increase investments and expand operations in Vietnam, particularly in high-quality infrastructure development, petroleum and renewable energy.

At their meeting, Minister Son and Australian Minister Wong promised to make thorough preparations for mutual high-level visits.

The Vietnamese minister thanked the Australian Government for increasing official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam to 95.1 million AUD for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

Wong agreed to step up joint projects, including improving the capacity of Vietnam’s foreign affairs officials.

On global and regional issues, Wong reiterated Australia’s support for ASEAN’s solidarity and central role in regional stability, as well as ASEAN’s common stance on the East Sea issue.

Son took the occasion to invite Wong to visit Vietnam again soon and co-chair the fifth Vietnam-Australia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting./.

‘ARMILA BEAUTY KAK ELL PIGMENT BOOSTER’ FOUND TO CONTAIN SCHEDULED POISON

The Health Ministry has revoked the notification of Armila Beauty Kak ELL Pigment Booster, found to contain a scheduled poison and is no longer allowed to be sold in Malaysia.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said the cosmetic product was detected to contain Betamethasone 17-Valerate, a type of drug that needed to be registered with the Drug Control Authority and could only be used with the advice of health professionals.

In a statement today, he said the use of products containing the substance without the supervision of health professionals could lead to unwanted side effects.

“Betamethasone 17-Valerate can cause the skin to become thin and prone to irritation, acne, changes in skin pigmentation and increase the risk of being absorbed into the blood circulation system, which can have harmful effects,” he said.

Dr Muhammad Radzi said sellers and distributors should stop selling and distributing the cosmetic product immediately as it violates the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984.

Any individual who commits the offence can be fined not more than RM25,000 or imprisoned not more than three years or both for the first offence and fined not more than RM50,000 or jailed not more than five years or both for subsequent offences.

A company found guilty can be fined up to RM50,000 for the first offence and up to RM100,000 for subsequent offences.

“Consumers are advised to stop using the products immediately and seek the advice of healthcare professionals if they experience any discomfort or adverse effects,” he said.

The public is encouraged to check the notification status of a cosmetic product at the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) official website at www.npra.gov.my or through the ‘NPRA Product Status’ application that can be downloaded from Google Play Store.

JOHOR TO HOST ASIA PACIFIC CLIMATE WEEK 2023

Johor has been selected to host the Asia-Pacific Climate Week (APCW) 2023 which will take place this November.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi In a post on his Facebook said that the matter was informed to him in a meeting with the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad in Putrajaya yesterday.

.He said the convention involving 2,000 delegates from 150 countries would certainly put Johor and Malaysia in the eyes of the world.

“Malaysia’s planning and preparation in dealing with pollution, flood disasters and environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues will be among the hot topics at the convention.

“Therefore, the state government is ready to explore all forms of cooperation with the federal government, so that the organisation of this international level event will run well and smoothly,” he said.

Through the meeting as well, the Menteri Besar said the Federal government also approved several allocations for the state for long and short term solutions in preparation for the northeast monsoon period.

He said the allocations included RM10.4 million for the procurement of 24 mobile pumps and RM6.88 million for drainage infrastructure maintenance works such as repairing river bank damage and deepening rivers.

While for long-term solutions, he said, RM 1.6 billion has been allocated for Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) projects in the Muar River Basin involving Segamat, Bandar Batu Pahat and the Johor River Basin, Kota Tinggi.

JBPM CONDUCTS MEDEVAC TO TAKE ORANG ASLI CHILD TO HOSPITAL

The Air Unit of the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) conducted a medical evacuation flight (Medevac) to take an eight-month-old baby boy, suffering from pneumonia, from Pos Simpor, near here, to receive treatment at Gua Musang Hospital, yesterday.

JBPM Subang air base public relations officer, Mohd Hasrizal Kamaruzzaman, said that the patient, Andrian Teley, and his mother, Sebey Alang, 22, were ferried on board the Agusta Westland AW189 aircraft.

“The aircraft departed from Bachok Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) at 12.30 in the afternoon, with the first stop at BBP Gua Musang to pick up two Ministry of Health (MOH) staff, and then landed at Pos Simpor at 1.40 pm.

“The patient was taken to the hospital with an ambulance as soon as he arrived at BBP Gua Musang at 2.05 pm,” he said in a statement today.

He said that the operation took two hours and 36 minutes, and concluded at 3.10 pm.

TUNKU ISMAIL VISITS SAF COMMANDOS HQ IN SINGAPORE

The Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim visited the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Commandos Headquarters at the Pasir Ris Camp, in Singapore today.

A post on the official HRH Crown Prince of Johor Facebook page today stated that Tunku Ismail in his capacity as the Commanding Officer of the Johor Military Force (JMF), who was accompanied by Singapore’s Senior Minister for Defence Zaqy Mohamad, observed a Close Quarters Battle (CQB) demonstration at the camp.

“His Majesty was also invited to demonstrate his marksmanship during a routine firearms training.

“There was also an Airborne demonstration and a drive around the camp in SAF’s Combat Jeep,” read the post

Tunku Ismail’s official three-day visit, which started on Monday, was on the invitation of Singapore’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.
