Youth development programme implementation needs to be more focused – Sulaiman

MELAKA, July 29 (Bernama) — The youth development programme in Melaka needs to be implemented through a new approach which is more focused and targeted, in line with current developments, so that it can have an impact and produce optimal results.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said this is because the youth movement in the state cannot escape from facing various challenges in an increasingly competitive and complex global environment.

“One of the initiatives that can be implemented is through the concept of joint implementation among agencies, to ensure that youth development in this country is jointly based on the functions and capabilities of each agency.

“This joint implementation will enable the sharing of available resources, as well as further strengthening the government’s development programme,” he said when officiating the state-level National Youth Consultation Council here today.

Also present were the state Youth Development, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) Committee chairman, V P Shanmugam; Department of Youth and Sports director-general, Mohd Azhari Mohammad and Melaka Youth Coalition president, Senator Datuk Mohd Ridhwan Mohd Ali.

Sulaiman said that the leaders of youth organisations must equip themselves with knowledge, skills and positive character, so that they can lead the youth movement more effectively, apart from continuing to play their respective roles to help Melaka become a competitive state in all aspects, comparable to other more advanced states.

“The Melaka government will continue to provide support and assistance for the development of the state youth in line with the direction of the Melaka Maju Jaya 2035 (PSMJ2035) strategic plan, under the ‘Melaka Sejahtera’ eight flagships, which aims to elevate youth position,” he said.
