Tourism industry needs new, premium products – MITA

JOHOR BAHRU, May 25 (Bernama) — The country’s tourism industry needs new products, especially premium products, to attract more quality tourists, as the industry has been expanding after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Malaysia Inbound Tourism Association (MITA) president, Uzaidi Udanis, said industry players should take the opportunity to create such tourism products, as tourists are currently drawn to attractions that promise unique experiences.

He said that the tourism market was currently becoming dynamic, which saw an increase in the price of flight tickets.

“We need the latest products, as the tourism market has also become dynamic and we are seeing an increase in the cost of packages and tickets.

“Hence, we don’t want to sell packages at regular prices. We should have more premium products where we can attract more quality tourists not (based on) quantity (only),” he said at a press conference after the Johor ‘Sumpit’ (blowpipe or blowgun) Challenge and Aboriginal Festival 2022 launching ceremony, here today.

He said that tourism products, such as JDT Hummer Tour and Caravan Park in Johor, were among the quality products as the attraction.

Uzaidi said that, at the same time, the best marketing techniques are also needed as the global tourism industry is currently busy.

“All countries (and people) want to travel, but what is our marketing strategy? Hence, we have to do promotions, be more active and provide quality services,” he said.

The Johor Sumpit Challenge and Aboriginal Festival 2022 will be held on Aug 8 at Kampung Peta in Taman Negara Endau-Rompin in Mersing, which will offer holidaymakers eco-tourism packages and more.
