Sarawak MATTA wants fair to help revive members

KUCHING, July 4 (Bernama) — The Sarawak chapter of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) is hoping that the 16th Sarawak MATTA Travel Fair 2022 will reactivate its 121 members in the state.

Sarawak MATTA chairman, Oscar Choo said so far about 10 per cent of its total members in the state has yet to revive their activity even though Malaysia has reopened its borders since April 1.

“I am not saying they have closed shop but they are still not active,” he said at a media conference to promote the latest Sarawak MATTA Fair today.

According to him, the tourism industry is generally the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, so Sarawak MATTA wants to hold the fair simultaneously here and in Miri on Aug 6 and 7 as a move to get the industry players under its patronage to be active again.

“Therefore we are having the event to get them to revive their operation,” he said.

Apart from that, Oscar said the travel fair is also aimed at assisting the people from falling victims to syndicates offering fake tourism packages as they could meet authentic MATTA travel agents face-to-face.

“Now, we are targeting 48 stalls at the fair here and 20 stalls in Miri,” said Oscar who added that the entrance to the exhibition from 10 am to 9 pm is fee.
