RWMF 2022 goes beyond in support of greening initiative programme

KUCHING, June 15 (Bernama) — The Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2022 is going beyond where this year, the festival’s virtual audiences can participate in the ecoGreenPlanet programme, a greening initiative of the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB).

STB Chief Executive Officer Sharzede Salleh Askor said for each RM25 virtual ticket sold, RM10 will be donated towards a tree planting activity that will be held after the festival.

“So far, we have 4,500 mangrove trees to plant and that is going to be completed, it will be looked into next month once the whole project is over.

“We are doing that as an inclusive programme where those who are not able to come here to participate can (still) enjoy and save the planet. So imagine you’re watching yet you save the planet,” she said at a press conference in conjunction with RWMF here today.

Meanwhile Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said 12,000 visitors are expected to attend the three-day event starting this Friday.

He said due to some countries still implementing travel restrictions, the number of visitors is somewhat reduced compared to the previous year.

“I believe those who stayed in Kuching will come at the last minute to buy tickets and the target of 12,000 visitors is not impossible to achieve,” he said.

Abdul Karim said festival-goers are also encouraged to take the shuttle bus services provided which will be available at three pick-up points downtown at The Hills shopping mall, Riverside Majestic Hotel and Plaza Merdeka.

This year, with the theme “25th Legendary Rainforest Celebration”, RWMF will feature performers from a host of countries, including China, Australia, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Canada, Estonia, Italy, Japan, Madagascar, the United States and Vietnam, which will see more individual acts than ever before live on the Rainforest stage as well as virtually.
