RIUH SOKMO in Kelantan to parade cutural heritage, creativity of local products

KOTA BHARU, Sept 15 (Bernama) — The fourth edition of Kembara Riuh Keluarga Malaysia (KRKM) in Kelantan themed ‘RIUH SOKMO! Bersama Celcom’ which will kick off tomorrow until Sunday at the Ketereh District Council Mini Stadium here, is a platform for the creative industry to showcase art and culture and propel the creativity of local products.

MyCreative Group corporate communications manager Gina Subki said the organisation of this edition is one of the government’s efforts to open up opportunities and space for creative industry players to advance their abilities.

“Over the three days of this programme, visitors can see for themselves the uniqueness and richness of the creative ecosystem in this country which indeed has great potential to be highlighted on the international stage.

“More than 40 booths have been prepared to feature various activities from related agencies including exhibitions from each state to showcase the uniqueness of their traditions,” she told Bernama today.

Gina said with the theme of ‘Santai-Santai Hari Malaysia’, this programme is hoped to instil the spirit of patriotism by appreciating the famous cultural heritage of Kelantan such as Wayang Kulit, Dikir Barat, Wau Bulan and Perahu Kolek.

“As a government agency, we are providing a space for participation through events like this as a starting point to connect the creative community with society at large for the advancement of creative industry players,” she said.

Since the establishment of the MyCreative Group in 2012, a total of RM447.7 million in financial assistance in the form of loans and grants had been rolled out to 1,000 creative industry players and entrepreneurs.

Launched earlier this year, KRKM was first organised in Ayer Hitam in Johor, followed by Kota Kinabalu in Sabah and Melaka by convening creative entrepreneurs and local artists, and is expected to create at least 7,000 job opportunities in 14 locations across the country in addition to supporting over 5,000 local businesses.

It is also in line with government efforts to increase the creative industry’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 20 per cent with an estimated RM31 billion by 2025.
