PENDANG, The Rahmah Sales programme at the Kedah Engineering Matriculation College in Pokok Tai here received a good response from residents in the surrounding areas and from other districts searching for cheaper daily necessities.
A Bernama survey found that some residents from the Padang Terap district also attended the sales programme despite having to travel quite far.
Thirty-five-year-old Mohd Syuhaimi Abdullah, a rubber tapper from Bukit Tembaga Kuala Nerang, said he did not mind the distance provided he could purchase the daily necessities at a lower price and cut down on his expenses.
“I travelled about 50 kilometres but, because it is this cheap, I decided to come. The prices offered are 10 per cent to 30 per cent cheaper compared to those sold at grocery stores.
“A bag of five-kilogramme rice costs RM14 compared to RM18 in sundry shops, a 1kg pack of flour costs RM2 compared to RM3.80, chicken is sold at RM12 each, the dishwasher is priced at RM5 and cooking oil at RM2.50 per one-kg pack… hopef

Mohd Syuhaimi said he intends to attend the Rahmah Sales programme wherever it is held to purchase cheaper daily necessities and would always refer to the programme calendar to get the latest updates.
Fifty-six-year-old housewife Mahizon Mat said announcements on social media platforms like WhatsApp, which is very widespread these days, allowed many people to get information regarding the programme.
“What I can say is that all the items sold are cheap. I ask that this (programme) be held regularly after this and not be stopped to help the public, especially those in the B40 group, here,’ said Mahizon, who is from Kampung Pokok Lanjut.
Meanwhile, 61-year-old Norin Mat is grateful to the government for holding the programme and hopes that it will be continued and expanded from time to time.
“I am tired but I still came with my children because I wanted to see the items that are said to be sold at a cheaper price. Alhamdulill
ah, many things are sold cheaper and if this is continued, it can help reduce our cost of living,’ said Norin.
