Perlis govt channels RM1.5 million to SAP to overcome water woes

KANGAR, Aug 11 (Bernama) – The state government has channelled an allocation totalling RM1.5 million to Syarikat Air Perlis Sdn Bhd (SAP) to overcome water woes in the state.

State Public Amenities, Infrastructure, Transport, Youth and Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Hamizan Hassan said the allocation was mainly to repair leaking water pipes and to purchase static tanks for use during water supply disruptions.

“The state government, through SAP, is always prepared to take immediate action to help residents affected by water supply disruption,” he said in reply to Azam Karap (PKR-Kuala Perlis) at the State Assembly sitting today.

Hamizan said SAP would also mobilise its tanker lorries to send water supply to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, Hamizan also said that the state government had spent RM422,900 since 2018 to give victory incentives to Perlis-born athletes who excelled in national and international sports arenas.

“Each year, Perlis-born athletes will be given the due recognition and reward when they qualified or emerged victorious at main sporting events such as at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA), SEA Games, Commonwealth Games and even at the Olympics or any Para Games,” he said.

Among the recipients of the incentives was Datuk Abdul Latif Romly who won a gold medal in the long jump event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
