MTQJK to serve as platform to cultivate Islamic values – Idris

The virtual National Winners of Quran Recitation Assembly (MTQJK) will serve as a platform to cultivate Islamic values and education, to produce a generation that loves, appreciates and practices the teachings of the Quran, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Idris Ahmad.

He said by appreciating noble values mentioned in the Quran, Muslims would be able to enjoy a harmonious and prosperous life, unity, respect and mutual tolerance, adding that Muslims should return to the teachings of the Quran as it provides a comprehensive source of civilisation.

Idris, in his speech when officiating the MTQJK today, said the Quran recitation assembly invited Muslims to always appreciate and practice the teachings of the Quran. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, is expected to close the assembly on Oct 26.

The MTQJK, which is held for five days, starting today, features 26 past winners of national Quran recitations and special guests, representing all states, who will recite the Quran in ‘taranum’ (modulation) method.

The inaugural MTQJK is held as an alternative to the annual National Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQK) for this year, which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The assembly, organised by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), will be broadcast live on RTM’s TV1 today and on Oct 24 and 25, as well as on TV OKEY on Oct 23 and 26, from 9 pm to 10.30 pm.
