More sound ideas needed to take Sabah to greater heights – Hajiji

Public service, whether at the federal or state departments in Sabah should come up with more sound, brave and aggressive ideas towards making improvements for the sake of the state’s development, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said the public servants should make year 2022 the starting point for a mindset and work process shift, quality communication and greater motivation to raise Sabah’s image.

“This is in line with the state government’s goal of focusing on efforts to make Sabah investor-friendly so as to attract more foreign investors to the state.

“This effort will also raise the confidence of the foreign investors in the growth prospects, hence, boosting economic progress in the state,” he said in his speech at the Sabah Public Sector (ISAS) Innovation Awards 2021 ceremony and launching of the related guidebook at Kinabalu Tower, here, today.

Hajiji said all the federal and state department heads must be exemplary in changing the mindsets of other members in the service so that Sabah could serve as a positive example for those in other states.

“Public service is the main pillar of the state’s development and prime mover of the Sabah Maju Jaya Direction (2021-2025) through human capital development and ensuring the people’s well-being,” he added.

Therefore, he hoped that the State Secretary’s Office and Federal Government Secretary’s Office could have strategic cooperation and discussions to make 2022 the starting point for change in Sabah.

On the ISAS 2021 programme implementation, he said it had made initiating innovations a culture, using the hybrid approach of face-to-face and online methods whenever suitable.

Hajiji hoped that this innovation programme could be expanded by holding innovation conventions in Sabah with the cooperation and involvement of the State and Federal Public Service Departments, and which could drive them to greater heights.

“We should accept that creating innovations is also a paradigm shift for the progress and success of a country to enable it to compete at the global level,” he said.
