MCKL launches its 600-capacity Pykett Campus in Penang

GEORGE TOWN, July 29 (Bernama) — Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) officially launched its first Penang campus today which it expects will achieve the full 600-student capacity by next year.

MCKL chief executive officer, Angela Pok, said she hopes the MCKL College Penang Pykett Campus will provide greater education opportunities for secondary school leavers and adult learners in the northern region in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0).

“The Pykett Campus will offer Cambridge A Levels, Australian matriculation, a Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Business, Digital Marketing and Early Childhood Education, as well as IR4.0-oriented programmes like the Diploma in Financial Technology, soon.

“We received our first intake of students earlier this month. Even without much promotion we managed to enrol over 100 students.

“There will be three intakes per year and we expect to operate at full capacity – with 600 students — in 2023 and the following years,” she said during a press conference after the launch.

The MCKL College Penang  Pykett Campus occupies 1.62ha of the former Pykett Methodist Primary School which is a 130 years old.

MCKL College Penang Pykett Campus principal, Dr Gerard Boey, said MCKL intentionally preserved the character and structure of the former school while upgrading the classrooms and facilities to accommodate a face-to-face, online and even hybrid method of teaching.

He said that aside from its sentimental value for the community, the objective of the conservation was to nurture an appreciation of heritage buildings.

“For over 39 years, MCKL has been providing quality, holistic education and a safe environment for purposeful learning.

“We have every intention of continuing our legacy of nurturing tertiary graduates who serve the community wholeheartedly, and contributing extensively to the development of the nation’s workforce where our graduates will fit easily into the realm of IR 4.0 and bring the state of Penang to the next level,” he added.
