MAIWP to hold two-day carnival for asnaf, B40 on Jan 28

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 (Bernama) — The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) will hold the MAIWP Carnival 2023 in January, with the aim of getting to know the asnaf (those eligible to receive tithe or zakat) and the B40 groups better, as well as highlighting the council’s functions and roles.

MAIWP chairman, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar, said that the two-day carnival, themed Empowering and Enterprising – Towards 50 Years of MAIWP Excellence, will be held at Dataran Merdeka from Jan 28 and open to all, regardless of race or religion.

He said the carnival, held in collaboration with Naurah Care Malaysia, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), is expected to be officiated by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Mohd Daud said one of the highlights of the carnival would be the Walimatul Urus Perdana, involving 100 brides and grooms from the asnaf and muallaf (Muslim converts) groups, expected to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Other highlights are the award presentation of Asnaf Entrepreneur Icon; MAIWP Asnaf Education Icon; MAIWP runs – three kilometre (km) and five km running events,” he said after the pre-launch ceremony of the MAIWP Carnival 2023 here today.

Mohd Daud said apart from a set of bridal costumes, MAIWP will also present a donation of RM2,000 to each bride and groom, so that they can start their life together as husband and wife.

He also added that the carnival is a new and trendy programme and narrative which creates an impact and new perspective on a religious agency in modern society.

He said that MMAIWP was targeting 500,000 people to attend the carnival.
