MAFI goes down to the field to help farmers get assistance – Deputy Minister

PASIR PUTEH, Feb 15 — The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) will go down to the field to meet farmers, including in rural areas, to help them to get clear information on various forms of assistance offered by the government.

Its Deputy Minister II, Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh, said that the initiative will be implemented in stages by the ministry’s agencies to help farmers in the short and long term.

“Relevant agencies are also instructed to help and facilitate them (farmers) to receive immediate assistance, as well as in terms of filling out application forms which have been difficult for the group to do,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after officiating the Agrobank and Community 2022 programme at the Cherang Rotan area farmers organisation (PPK) hall, here today.

Also present was Agrobank president and chief executive officer, Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin.

Meanwhile, Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah said Agrobank is expected to establish a mobile banking service for residents in rural areas, such as Jeli and Gua Musang, starting in the third quarter of this year.

He said the service will be part of efforts to help residents living in remote areas and having difficulty going to the city.

“Apart from mobile banking services, Agrobank will also expand its banking agents in mosques and cooperatives, so that they can provide services to customers to make deposits and withdrawals in small amounts,” he said.
