KJAM set MBR record by conquering 14 peaks in 87 days last year

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 (Bernama) — The Alpine Club Malaysia (KJAM) set a new record by conquering 14 of the highest peaks in the country within a period of 87 days from September to December last year.

KJAM in a statement today said that the climb was divided into three phases involving seven highest mountains in the Borneo archipelago (Seven Summits Borneo) and seven highest mountains in the Peninsula, starting from Mount Tambuyukon, Sabah and ending at Mount Mulu, Sarawak.

In the same statement, its President, Muhammad Illaham Ishak who is also an accomplished climber said in addition to setting the record for completing the fastest 14-peak climb, the ’14 Peaks Malaysia’ mission also set two more records, namely the climb of Sabah’s 7 Highest Peaks (Sabah 7 Summits) within 14 days and the seven highest Peaks in the Peninsula (G7 Malaya) within 30 days.

He said that KJAM’s special climbing project, referring to the Malaysia Book of Records, namely ’14 Peaks Malaysia’, will be published in a book to provide guidance and information on mountain climbing in this country.

“I hope that there are other climbers who can conquer 14 peaks with a faster record while also promoting and improving the Equatorial rainforest climbing sports industry in Malaysia among local and foreign climbers,” said Muhammad Illaham who also expressed his appreciation to the supporting climbers and those involved in making the mission a success.

Muhammad Illaham, 46, once conquered the summit of Everest via Tibet in 2011 and Everest via Nepal in 2013 in addition to successfully conquering the highest peak of the European continent, Mount Elbrus, seven times.

He also reached the highest peak of the African continent, Mount Kilimanjaro, twice and the highest peak of the Australasia continent, which is Mount Carstensz Pyramid in the province of Papua, Indonesia.
