TANAH MERAH, April 12 (Bernama) — Kelantan youths are taking advantage of business opportunities during Ramadan to sell iftar delicacies to earn extra money or ‘pitih raya’ for Aidilfitri.
A Bernama survey here found that stalls selling breaking of fast delicacies like traditional cakes and a variety of drinks can be seen dotting the roads.
And the stalls, located 50 or 100 metres apart are mostly being operated by youths.
One of them is Tuan Fakhira Tuan Abdul Razak, 25, who said that this Ramadan, he decided to sell ‘Roti John’ after resigning from his job at a factory in the Klang Valley last month.
“I decided to use an abandoned burger stall in front of my house which my brother left behind to start my Roti John business to earn extra income for Aidilfitri and to purchase daily necessities.
“I share this business with my cousin Tuan Fahmi Tuan Zainal Abidin, 23, and I would spend RM100 a day to buy ingredients such as bread, chicken and minced meat as well as vegetables,” he told Bernama when met at his stall at Kampung Padang Siam here today.
Elaborating further, Tuan Fakhira said he is able to sell 45 to 50 Roti John a day for RM5 a piece.
He also promotes his business on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
Meanwhile, sugar cane juice seller, Mohd Al-Ami Noor, 23 said every year in the month of Ramadan, he would operate his stall to earn ‘pitih raya’ for his family and personal use.
“Ever since when I was in secondary school, I would sell sugar cane juice at RM2 and RM4 a packet depending on the size.
“I don’t have a problem with sourcing my sugar canes because my father grew them at the back of the house,” he said.
