Health problems not a hindrance to excel in SPM

JELI, June 18 (Bernama) — Suffering from ‘prolapsed intervertebral disc’ or slipped disc from the age of 16 did not deter Wan Muhammad Akram Zahid from Sekolah Menengah Sains Jeli from scoring 9As in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2021 examination.

Wan Muhammad Akram, 18, said he did not expect to excel in the examination as he had once given up on continuing his studies for fear of having to bother his parents, teachers and friends.

“I used to think what is the point of me studying hard when I can’t work well due to this illness.

“Nevertheless, I persevere to stay motivated because I want to repay my parents for everything that they have sacrificed for me,” he told Bernama when met at his school recently.

The youngest of four siblings from Kampung Laut, Tumpat, said due to his illness, he could not sit or stand for more than 10 minutes and even had to study in a prone position in the school dormitory.

“I was absent from school for two months due to my health problems and had to attend online tuition classes so as not to miss lessons.

“I would like to thank the school for providing a special chair to allow me to sit comfortably in the classroom,” said Wan Muhammad Akram who hoped to become an orthopaedic specialist in the future.
