Canopy rental entrepreneurs reminded to comply with rules – Aminuddin

SEREMBAN, March 1 (Bernama) — Canopy rental operators in resort areas or beaches have been reminded to comply with the set rules in relation to the services, and not to force visitors to rent them.

Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said this is because the actions of these entrepreneurs, for example, in setting up rows of canopies even without the presence of visitors, will only cause visitors who want to have fun on the beach to feel uncomfortable and upset.

“They (entrepreneurs) have to understand that when people come down to the beach, they will feel uncomfortable. We allow them (entrepreneurs) to set up the canopies, but if they don’t use them, please put them away. If they want to use it, they can set up again without forcing people to rent the canopy.

“That’s the rule but they (entrepreneurs) have misused it, that’s the problem, they think they have the power by setting up the canopies as they, please. In the end, they are the losers when no tourists come,” he told reporters after chairing the state executive council (exco) weekly meeting here today.

Recently, the media reported that there were complaints from visitors who felt uncomfortable and upset with the rows of rental canopies set up along the beach in Port Dickson.

In addition, he said traders should not arbitrarily sell goods or food in the areas priced exorbitantly, besides reminding them always to maintain good manners.

In the meantime, Aminuddin said that the current public examination season is seen as one of the reasons Port Dickson sees fewer visitors, causing anxiety, especially among local traders.

“I think (because of) exam week, not only parents are involved but also teachers, we also just finished the Chinese New Year holidays and some are already making preparation for the arrival of Ramadan. I am confident that Port Dickson will recover as usual after this,” he said.

In another development, Aminuddin, who is also Sikamat assemblyman, hinted at the possibility of defending the seat in the next state election.

“Insya-Allah… regarding the new faces in the next state election, the matter is the president’s decision; usually he will ask for several names, including Sikamat,” he said.

Apart from Negeri Sembilan, five other states which will hold state elections this year are Penang, Selangor, Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah.
