Buy Malaysia Campaign should target foreign tourists – Local entrepreneur

LANGKAWI, Nov 25 — The Buy Malaysia Campaign (KBBM) by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry should also target foreign tourists visiting the country besides focusing on local visitors.

The call was made by Mahsuri Gold beauty and health products manufacturer, Zuliza Zainon, 37, who said the move would help improve the sales of local products and introduce local brands to foreigners.

“Like in Langkawi Island, I find foreign tourists who come here don’t want to buy overseas products but are keen on local products that cannot be bought in their country.

“If we introduce our local products to them through the Buy Malaysia Campaign or other promotions I believe it will help SMEs improve their sales and their brands can penetrate bigger markets overseas,” she told Bernama recently.

Zuliza who founded the company Lieza Anggun Enterprise in 2016 in Kuala Teriang here, said a lot needs to be learned by local SMEs about producing good quality products before thinking about penetrating the overseas markets.

Commenting on her products, Zuliza said she first produce her sea cucumber-based health and beauty products at home several years ago after attending courses organised by government agencies including the Langkawi Agriculture Department.

“Presently, I have five main products and 12 outlets in Langkawi and a retail outlet at Langkawi International Airport. I also sell my products via online platforms,” she said.

The national-level Buy Malaysia Campaign 2021 was launched by Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid at Dataran Chenang Langkawi recently. It is being used as a platform to rebrand the campaign in an effort to gain public confidence in local products.
