Body of man believed drowned found in Sungai Kuantan

— The body of a man, believed to have drowned, was found in Sungai Kuantan, near Kampung Padang, here, today.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer, Anuar Hassan said the body of Azam Zahari Mat Nawi, 42, was found five metres from the victim’s location by the Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) at about 8.50 am today. Azam is believed to have gone fishing with his friend.

According to Anuar, an emergency call was received at 7.11 pm yesterday before seven personnel including officers from the Indera Mahkota Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by the Kuantan PPDA, rushed to the scene to conduct a search and rescue operation for the victim.

“The operation which continued today after being postponed yesterday, found the victim five metres from his fishing spot at a depth of three metres,” he said in a statement, here, today.

The body of the victim, who lived in Kampung Padang, here, was handed over to police for further action. The operation which also involved the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, police and villagers ended today at about 11 am.
