KUALA LUMPUR, Arus Restu Sdn Bhd (ARSB), the Malaysian telecommunications cable company responsible to land the MIST (Malaysia, India, Singapore, Thailand) cable system in Malaysia, said it “is delighted to be part of the initiative on the extension between the MIST and APRICOT cable systems when both are commissioned in 2023 and 2024 respectively.”
ARSB said the move “completes ARSB’s aspiration to provide connectivity into India and Japan from Malaysia.”
ARSB chief executive officer Rozaimy Rahman said with the connection of both systems, Malaysian internet users will get greater diverse access to international connectivity, thus enabling Malaysia to remain competitive and continue to attract foreign investments.
“This recent connectivity comes in the form of leading-edge connectivity that spans to the west into India on the MIST cable and the interconnectivity to the APRICOT system that leads towards the east to Japan and onward to the United States through interconnectivity in Japan,” the company said in a statement. “This, in turn, will provide Malaysians with new internet submarine direct extensions not only to India but also to Singapore, Jakarta, Philippines, Guam (US), Taiwan, and Tokyo.”
The APRICOT cable system is a new, large capacity unique-routed optical submarine cable within Asian countries and the United States.
Complementing the APRICOT cable system is the MIST cable system, which is being commissioned by Orient Link Ltd.
