22,980 hotel rooms in Melaka – Muhammad Jailani

MELAKA, April 10 (Bernama) — Some 22,980 hotel rooms are available in Melaka to meet the expected increase in the arrival of domestic and foreign tourists arriving in the state with the country entering the transition to endemic phase.

State Tourism, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis said he was confident of the state achieving its target of 5.6 million tourists this year, especially with the expected surge in tourist arrivals after the Aidilfitri celebration.

“If we look at the main roads in the state, they are now congested, especially on weekends, and this situation is very different during Ramadan two years ago.

“The arrival of many visitors will have a positive impact on all industry players,” he told reporters. here today.

Muhammad Jailani said Melaka was also ready to welcome the arrival of tourists by air from Indonesia through the Melaka International Airport (LTAM) and also via the Melaka-Dumai International Ferry Terminal Immigration, Customs and Quarantine Complex (ICQ).

“Before the COVID-19 pandemic, based on statistics of tourist arrivals through the air route in the state in 2019, there were about 120,000 passengers from Sumatra, an increase of six times from 2018.

“We were informed that Malindo is interested in operating as soon as possible by offering 80-seat flight services to bring tourists from there,” he added.
