MAIS launches Wasiat and Hibah System

SHAH ALAM, June 1 (Bernama) — The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) today launches the Wasiat (will) and Hibah (gift) System (SISWA) to facilitate the management of both services online in Selangor.

MAIS chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said that MAIS, as the management body for Baitulmal, was always committed to giving the best service and becoming the main reference in managing the property of Muslims.

“MAIS has upgraded the existing system, e-Wasiat, to a new system which is smarter through the combination of two elements of property division planning, namely, wasiat and hibah.

“Through this system, applications and approvals will be fully managed online, apart from offering the use of Electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC), which is recognised by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

“In addition, SISWA also uses digital signatures which are subject to the Digital Signature Act 1997, and the applicant’s transaction confirmation is done via One-Time Password (OTP),” he said when met by reporters after launching the system here today.

Abdul Aziz said that to date, 3,196 applications for wasiat and hibah had been received, and MAIS targeted that 6,000 people would register with SISWA.

“We hope that the system will give a new facility to Muslims in an effort to help in a more systematic property division, and simultaneously avoid property issues among next-of-kin,” he said.

The implementation of the innovation could be made via https://siswa.mais.gov.my.

Further information on wasiat, hibah and inheritances can be obtained via the official website of MAIS at www.mais.gov.my or by contacting 03-5514 3773/3772.

Penang explores Middle East market to revive tourism sector

GEORGE TOWN, June 1 (Bernama) — The Penang government is exploring new markets in the Middle East region in a bid to revive the state’s tourism sector after the COVID-19 pandemic.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the state government was now actively exploring the possibility of making Dubai the hub of connectivity between Penang and the Middle East region.

“This effort is in line with the state government’s mission to explore the western tourism market to attract tourists from Europe, the United States and the Middle East.

“This is because these tourists have a higher spending power as well as longer holiday periods,” he said at the closing session of the Penang State Assembly sitting here today.

Yeoh said this effort could contribute to the economic development of Penang and Malaysia as a whole.

He said the state government had also produced ‘Muslim Travel Guides’ pamphlets in Arabic and distributed them in the Middle East Region through local industry players.

Yeoh is also confident that, after many discussions between the state government and airline companies, Penang will most likely welcome direct flights from Middle Eastern countries by the end of this year.

The State Assembly sitting continues tomorrow.
