Ismail Sabri yet to meet Zuraida on Cabinet post

KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has yet to meet Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin to discuss her position as Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister.

“I was told she is still on leave, so I have not met her yet. Insya Allah (God willing) once she has met me to discuss, I will make a decision,” Ismail Sabri told reporters after attending Barisan Nasional’s (BN) 48th anniversary celebration here today.

Asked whether Zuraida’s move to switch parties might lead to a Cabinet reshuffle, Ismail Sabri said the two matters were not related.

“It has nothing to do with a Cabinet reshuffle. She announced first but I do not know what will happen after this. She only quit Bersatu; she did not resign from the Cabinet. It’s different and for the Cabinet post she needs to discuss with me,” the prime minister said.

On May 26, Zuraida, who is the Ampang Member of Parliament, announced her decision to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia, and said she would meet Ismail Sabri to discuss her position in the Cabinet.

JKNS to wait For MACC’s report before taking further action over funeral management bribes

SHAH ALAM, June 1 (Bernama) — The Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) is waiting for a report from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) before deciding on action to be taken against its staff detained by the enforcement agency in connection with alleged soliciting of bribes for funeral management.

State Health director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said the decision would include whether to suspend or dismiss the staff involved.

“There are six officers that have been detained by the MACC. So we have to see what is the next step taken by MACC.

“Once the MACC informs (the status of the case) and if it is brought to court, we will act accordingly,” he said in a press conference after a town hall session on the Hand Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) at the Tun Raja Uda Library today, which was also attended by Deputy Health Minister I Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali

Commenting further, Dr Sha’ari said so far the department had only received reports involving staff at the Kajang and Serdang hospitals.

On May 30, Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim was reported to have confirmed the detention of four employees of a government hospital, and that the case was being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009.

He said three of the suspects were remanded at the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court while another suspect, a 41-year-old assistant medical officer, was released on MACC bail due to health reasons after assisting in the investigation of the case.

On May 27, two health assistants, aged 40 and 42, were remanded for five days by the MACC in connection to the case.

Meanwhile, commenting on the HFMD situation in Selangor, Dr Sha’ari said a total of 18,525 cases had been recorded so far this year, with the number of weekly cases of late exceeding the warning level.

He said that in epidemiology week (EW) 21/2022 (EW 21), a total of 4,884 cases were reported, an increase of 2 per cent compared to the previous EW with 4,776 cases.

Among the districts with the highest number of cases are Petaling with 6,111 (34 per cent), Hulu Langat with 2,965 (16 per cent) and Gombak with 2,537 (14 per cent).

“To date, a total of 336 laboratory samples have been taken and sent to the National Public Health Laboratory with 36 per cent (121 samples) have been detected positive,” he said, adding that the majority of the cases were of the coxsackie A6, pan enterovirus, EV71 and coxsackie A16 viruses.

Previous tough times prompt Kak Chah to offer free nasi lemak to students

JOHOR BAHRU, June 1 (Bernama) — Having gone through some tough times and facing financial problems until she could not continue her studies has inspired a nasi lemak stall operator, Siti Aishah Othman, to give free food to students.

Wanting to be known as Kak Chah, 32, who has only been doing business at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for a month, welcomes students at the university to take food for free, through a note on her stall.

Her initiative over the past two days has gone viral on social media, with many students lining up as early as 7 am to take a free regular nasi lemak complete with anchovies, cucumber, peanuts and egg.

“When I started my business here, there were students who came every day to buy regular nasi lemak which I sold for RM1 a pack.

“I understood they needed to save and would not eat the regular nasi lemak each day, and some also paid with coins…so I just donated the staple to them,” she said when met at UTM, here, yesterday.

Two days ago, Siti Aishah’s note that reads, “Dear students, if you don’t have any money, don’t starve, come here and I will treat you. I was a student before, so don’t be shy,” went viral on social media and received various compliments and positive reactions from netizens.

The mother of a child who was only able to pursue a Bachelor of Writing degree at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Puncak Alam for a year in 2010 due to financial problems, said that since yesterday, her stall was visited by many and it closed as early as 11 am.

“Yesterday, some people paid the RM1 pack of nasi lemak for 200 students, so I helped cook it and all were given away.

“There were also students who came but were shy to take it. I understand that we tend to be shy when we face hardship but I give out the nasi lemak sincerely,” said the eighth child of nine siblings whose parents had passed away.

The woman from Kedah said apart from giving regular nasi lemak for free to students, she still did business as usual by selling nasi lemak with side dishes to earn some income.

Admitting that the increase in the price of goods, especially chicken, has caused her not to earn much profit, she still sells the food cheap, such as RM4 for a piece of spicy chicken.

“I just don’t have the heart to charge a high price…I’m aware that everyone has to be prudent now as the price of goods has gone up, and students also have to save money. The profit is not much but I am till grateful and hope to continue giving for as long as I can,” she said.

TH develops four user-friendly, informative apps for use by haj pilgrims in Makkah

MAKKAH, June 1 (Bernama) — Convenient, informative and user-friendly.

These are the advantages that can be enjoyed from using the four applications developed by Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), namely THhujjaj, Hajjmobility, E-Taib and E-bimbingan, when in Makkah for the Haj season this year.

TH Information Technology Division director of operations Shamsul Kamar Hussein Kamal said the applications were not only an important information channel for staff but could also be a reference for various questions by 14,306 Malaysian pilgrims.

He said users, even the elderly who are not tech-savvy, would be able to master the applications in a short period of time.

“Actually, there is an increased understanding of information technology among senior citizens now but those who have problems will be assisted by the staff members, especially when it comes to using the THhujjaj.

The THhujjaj is easy to use, even for first-time pilgrims, because everything related to the Haj pilgrimage can be obtained from the application,” he told reporters when met at the Al Jandriah Building here.

Shamsul Kamar said the TH IT team used the two years they had stayed away from Makkah, due to COVID-19, to improve the existing system and even managed to create new applications.

Given that technology is moving so fast, he said TH ensured it obtained the best and latest system so as not to inconvenience the pilgrims.

“The digitalisation development process was done after TH saw the need to facilitate the congregation … we started this THhujjaj over four years ago, including studying what can be improved by making various trial versions.

“It was completed during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period two years ago, but the test sessions could not be carried out because this system can only be used in Makkah,” he explained.

He added that Hajjmobility would assist staff in monitoring all movements of the pilgrims, especially in arranging transportation and accommodation, besides helping to cut down on the occurrence of management errors.
