Ryan Kavanaugh’s Proxima Studios Announces Start of Production of Skill House Starring Bryce Hall, Directed and Written by Josh Stolberg – Writer of Jigsaw and Spiral – of the Saw Franchise

First-of-its-kind film to be “listed” on the entertainment stock exchange allowing fans to participate and invest in the film via ESX.io

LOS ANGELES, April 13, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Based on an original idea by EGOT Megaproducer (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) Nominee Ryan Kavanaugh, Skill House is the first of a franchise and is slated to start principal production in June 2022 with an expected early 2023 release date. It is financed and controlled by Proxima Studios and written and directed by horror film legend Josh Stolberg, co-writer of horror films such as Spiral: From the Book of Saw (starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson), Jigsaw, Piranha 3D, Sorority Row, as well as the next Saw film (tentatively titled Saw X) and starring social media phenomenon Bryce Hall, who is one of the world’s most-followed Social Media Stars with over 50 Million Followers across his social media channels.

Skill House will be the first film to be “listed” on the entertainment stock exchange (“ESX“), a first-of-its-kind platform allowing users to invest in the film and trade in or out of the film and its upside.

Starring social media personality Bryce Hall, Skill House takes a stab at social media influencers and will be an unflinching take on fame and what new celebrities are willing to do to attain it. It will be shot in the Sway House, a mansion in Bel Air, made famous by many of Tik Tok’s biggest stars. It will skewer the landscape of young celebrities who will do anything for a “click.”

“I’ve worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Chris Rock and Sam Jackson, Carrie Fisher and Dwayne Johnson… but my kids are more excited about this project than any other I’ve worked on,” said Stolberg. “Working with Bryce Hall and Ryan Kavanaugh, this is sure to be a first of a new horror genre. These social media personalities are the new Hollywood, and they are reinventing what it means to be a star. When a young kid from Maryland, like Bryce, with nothing but a cell phone and a ring light, can attract tens of millions of followers on Tik Tok and Instagram, it evens the playing field for everyone. But there’s a dark side to this new entertainment landscape, and I’m excited to flip that rock over.”

“The film will be a “hard R” horror film and will have a gritty approach to what it takes to succeed in a business that relies on fans “liking you.” Stolberg added, “there’s nothing I love more than writing a watercooler kill scene… and we’re already over budget with the amount of blood we’re going to use. While this concept could play for parody, I’ll be taking a more serious approach and leaning into scares and horror over humor. I’m not pulling punches. I’ve been given the green light to go for it. And I can’t wait!”

Kavanaugh, the 24th highest-grossing producer of all time, has produced and or financed over 200 films such as Fast and Furious 3,4,5,6, Social Network, 300, Mamma Mia!, Limitless, Fighter, Zombieland, and many more. Kavanaugh also previously owned Rogue Pictures, which launched over 60 horror movies, including Strangers, The Unborn, and My Soul to Take.

“This film intends to break the boundary between the short-form social media phenomenon and long-form content,” said Kavanaugh. “Bryce is one of the most recognized and polarizing influencers with over 50 million followers and will certainly be a crossover star. The film digs deep into the human psyche and the new generation’s thirst for stardom, asking how far they would go? It will be bloody, it will be dark, and it will certainly be talked about.”

Daniel Herther, who oversees production and creative development at Proxima, will serve as executive producer. Before joining Proxima, Herther produced the Nic Cage thriller Inconceivable and held executive roles at Relativity Media and WB’s Hollywood Gang (300).

This will be the first time fans can actually invest into a feature film and participate in the upside of the film via ESX.

Bryce Hall is repped by Brad Baskin of Panther Management and Ryan Kavanaugh and Proxima are repped by Neil Sacker.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) — Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz and Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin provided their statements in the MySejahtera Application Development and Procurement proceedings to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), today.

PAC chairman Wong Kah Woh said also present in the three-hour proceedings which began at 10 am, were Treasury secretary-general Datuk Seri Asri Hamidon and Health Ministry (MOH) secretary-general Datuk Harjeet Singh a/l Hardeev Singh as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and MOH.

“These proceedings were held using the PAC’s source of authority under standing orders 77 (1) (d) and 77 (5) of the Dewan Rakyat and Section III, Article 11 (b), General Circular No. 2 (1982),” he said in a statement here today.

He said during today’s proceedings, the PAC’s focus was on the awarding of the MySejahtera application development contract to KPI Soft Sdn Bhd in April 2020 as well as the awarding of a contract through direct negotiation to MySJ Sdn Bhd by the government in November 2021 and the status of government’s negotiations with the company.

RM150 mln allocated to upgrade drainage system, retention ponds in Shah Alam

SHAH ALAM, April 14 (Bernama) — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has allocated RM150 million to upgrade the main drainage system and retention ponds in the township which will be implemented over the next three years, to address flood issues.

Shah Alam mayor Datuk Zamani Ahmad Mansor said for the first year, RM50 million would be used to upgrade the drainage system and retention ponds in flood-prone areas.

“This year, we will first focus on areas such as Taman Sri Muda; Section 13; Taman Mesra and Taman Tun Dr Ismail Jaya,” he told a press conference after officiating the townhall session for the preparation of the Shah Alam Flood Action Plan for 2022-2024, here today.

Zamani Ahmad said a 50-year average recurrance interval (ARI) design was needed for Shah Alam as the current drainage system only able to accommodate between five and 20 ARIs and it was no longer suitable due to rainfall uncertainties.

On the preparation of the Shah Alam Flood Action Plan, he said MBSA planned to build structures that can help control unusual flood situations and support the existing flood mitigation system provided by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage.

‘Go Selangor’ app launched to boost tourism

SHAH ALAM, April 14 (Bernama) — The Selangor government, via Tourism Selangor, has launched the ‘Go Selangor’ application to provide tourists full access to tourism products and to boost the economy in the state.

State Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Orang Asli Affairs Committee chairman, Hee Loy Sian said the launch of the official Selangor tourism application was in line with his team’s efforts in digitising the tourism industry in Selangor.

He said the application served as a ‘one-stop centre’ for various ‘merchants’ (operators/traders) to encourage tourists to explore the interesting locations in Selangor.

“The application is very convenient, and through it, we can purchase tickets, book hotels, chalets, homestays, transportation and various others. This is the only (state tourism) application available in Malaysia,” he told reporters after launching the application and witnessing the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Tourism Selangor and Tourplus at Red Carpet 2@i-City in Shah Alam here today.

Hee said there are so far more than 300 merchants who have registered on the application and his team is targeting the number to increase to 100,000 by the end of this year.

In addition, there will be no charge for the first year for those who want to register as merchants on the application. Subsequently, there will be a fee of RM300 per year.

The ‘Go Selangor’ application can be downloaded on the Google Play Store from today and on IOS from May onwards.

Sharp increase in flight ticket prices to Sabah can affect its tourism industry recovery

KOTA KINABALU, April 14 (Bernama) — The increase in flight ticket prices to Sabah by up to 500 per cent is feared to adversely affect its tourism sector recovery after the reopening of the country’s borders last April 1.

State Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Jafry Ariffin said international as well as domestic tourists could only visit Sabah via flights and if the air ticket prices were unreasonable or too high, it could affect the number of tourist arrivals in the “Land Below the Wind’.

“With the reopening of the country’s borders, we expect to receive up to 1.3 million tourists to Sabah.

“We’ve just gone through the Movement Control Order and an economy badly affected (by the COVID-19 pandemic) and now come the high flight ticket prices.

“This will surely affect our tourism industry in terms of tourist arrivals in Sabah,” he told reporters after a breaking-of-fast event organised by the ministry, here, today.

Jafry said his ministry had also received complaints from Sabahans following the flight ticket price increase as this would hamper their return to their hometowns or villages for the Hari Raya celebration this year.

“For example, the ticket price for the flight today alone from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau has gone up to RM1,300. This is ridiculous and too high whereas usually, it has been RM100 to RM300.

“Therefore, I hope the relevant parties will look into this matter and I believe the current government will listen to the voice of the rakyat (people),” he added.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor reportedly said that the Sabah government would urge the federal government through the Transport Ministry to find ways to reduce the price of the flight tickets.

Meanwhile, when asked to comment on the increase of the federal government’s special grant for Sabah, Jafry said it showed the good relations between both governments and he hoped the allocation could be used to boost development in the state.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Hajiji in their joint statement today said the giving of the new special grant to Sabah was an increase by 4.7 times to RM125.6 million for 2022 from RM26.7 million previously.

Ramadan: Butir nako emas, sweetmeat originating from Thai royal court in high demand

KOTA BHARU, April 14 (Bernama) — With a golden yellow hue and shaped like jackfruit seeds, the ‘butir nako emas’ are in high demand for breaking of fast, especially among Kelantanese.

The sweetmeat maker from Rantau Panjang in Pasir Mas, Suri Wan Ali, 36, said the ‘butir nako emas’ or ‘biji nangka emas’ originated from the royal court of Thailand.

Suri said previously, ‘butir nako emas’ were only available in Rantau Panjang but due to the high demand for it, she also produced this dessert in Kota Bharu since three years ago.

“My mother, Wan Ramlah Wan Harun, 60, learned to make it from her late father, Wan Ali Wan Harun who came from Golok, Thailand, using the original recipe from the Thai royal court since 30 years ago.

“As the demand has become so high in Kelantan and only available in Rantau Panjang, I decided to open a branch here,” she said when met at the premises in Jalan Tok Hakim, here, today.

“This kuih is difficult to make as it requires patience and concentration as well as time-consuming, that is, it takes two days to get really beautiful ‘jackfruit seeds’ (biji nangka emas).

The basic ingredients for this kuih are green peas, dhal, coconut milk, sugar syrup and egg yolks.

“Firstly, you need to steam the green peas and dhal and then these are mixed well with coconut milk and made into oval shape like the jackfruit seed.

“The process continues by dipping the kuih in egg yolk and then placed in the warm syrup and after being cooked, it is again soaked in the syrup so as to have a golden yellow sheen,” explained the mother of two.

Suri said the ‘butir nako emas’ were being sold at RM100 per tray of over 60 pieces.

She said the onset of transition to the endemic phase had been very fruitful for her business, being run together with her husband, Sani Ismail, 66, as they’ve had their hands in meeting the demand for the kuih from customers.

“This Ramadan, the orders have been five-fold domestically and also come from outside the country such as Brunei. There are customers from Kuala Lumpur who personally come here to get this kuih that they’ve ordered,” said Suri who is assisted by six workers.

Besides ‘butir nako emas’, Suri sells 25 types of kuih such as ‘mokeng’, ‘kuba guling’, ‘sekaya labu’, ‘sekaya nangka’, ‘koleh tahi minyak’ and ‘koleh ubi keledek’.
