  • With intelligent, secure, interoperable and collaborative solutions, Philips aims to illuminate a new path through the care continuum to address the quadruple aim
  • New HealthSuite solutions for acute patient management, diagnostic informatics and virtual care support health systems in their digital transformation

Amsterdam, the Netherlands – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, will showcase its latest intelligent, secure, interoperable and collaborative informatics solutions virtually during the HIMSS21 Global Health Conference & Exhibition, taking place from August 9-13 in Las Vegas, NV. Philips will showcase its deep clinical and operational expertise and introduce Philips HealthSuite solutions that foster care collaboration, help enable precision care and provide care anywhere.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many healthcare leaders to focus on immediate needs and preparing for future crises, findings from the recently published 2021 Future Health Index reveal that leaders working on healthcare informatics have a positive outlook on building a resilient future, with telehealth and artificial intelligence (AI) high on their investment list. While accelerated acceptance and usage of telehealth has laid the foundations for digitalization, healthcare leaders are beginning to also focus on predictive healthcare technologies such as AI, with 84% saying they want to invest in this technology within the next three years.

“Over the past year and a half, health systems have been challenged to innovate and adapt how they deliver care and focus resources to meet patient needs. Continuing to embrace this digital transformation will help health systems thrive, while ensuring patients remain at the center of care,” said Roy Jakobs, Chief Business Leader Connected Care, Philips. “During HIMSS21, we are spotlighting our commitment to helping healthcare organizations embark on this new era of connected care and showcasing our integrated informatics solutions that help customers drive improvements in quality and efficiency of care across the continuum.”

Spotlighting Philips’ solutions that illuminate a new path through the care continuum
During HIMSS21, Philips will focus on the following 2021 key informatics themes: Care Collaboration, Virtual Care, Precision and Acute Care, Business Models, and Digital Transformation. Philips HealthSuite solutions available across these areas enable precise, collaborative, interoperable and virtual care to address the quadruple aim of better health outcomes, improved patient and staff experience, while lowering the cost of care.

At the center of any digital transformation work is Philips Care Collaboration [1], which is a collaborative approach to support a healthcare organization’s digital transformation. As health systems seek to manage, coordinate, orchestrate and synchronize care across the health continuum, each organization’s digital journey will be unique. Through Care Collaboration, Philips acts as a partner to healthcare organizations to gain a deep understanding of their challenges and determine how Philips’ advanced HealthSuite solutions can help them support data and workflows to deliver enhanced care to the right patient, in the right setting, at the right time. Philips solutions included within this approach are acute patient management, diagnostic informatics and virtual care. During the conference, Philips will introduce these new cloud-based HealthSuite solutions for patient journey management and acute care telehealth.

Siblings left to fend for themselves after parents die of COVID-19

KLANG, Aug 9 — The Covid-19 pandemic has affected all, especially children who either lost a mother or a father. Some suddenly found themselves becoming orphans when both their parents die at almost the same time.

This is what happened to five siblings in Port Klang when both their parents passed away just days apart due to Covid-19.

Their mother, Ramlah Muktar, 43, passed away on July 31 and six days later by their father Mohd Suhaimi Zakaria, 55, who breathed his last on Aug 7.

Now the eldest of the siblings, 21-year-old Iewanina Mohd Suhaimi, a student of International Islamic University, IIUM in Gombak finds herself pushed as head of the family looking after four of her siblings who are still schooling.

“They went so suddenly and it caught me off guard. I don’t know what to do,” she told the media after a visit by Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari.

Her other siblings, Batrisyia Izzah, 19; Uzair Wazini, 16;  Ahmadinejad, 12; and Nisa Ailani who is five years old are staying in a unit at the Seri Perantau Flat in Port Klang, Selangor left behind by their late parents.

“Three of my siblings staying in hostels. And fortunately I am at home doing my studying online, so I can at least look after them at home,” she said.

Iewanina said before their parents passed away, they told her look after her siblings and never to stop studying. This was what motivated her to finish her studies at IIUM.

“My late mum also told us to succeed in this world and the hereafter.  Those words are etched in my mind now,” she said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rashid said he had decided to adopt Intan Iewanina and her siblings under the Selat Klang state constituency and all their expenses  including daily and school needs are taken care of the constituency.

“I also plan to setup a fund for them and the fund will also be opened to other families since there are others like them,’ he said adding that he would be putting in RM5,000 into the fund for a start.

RM8 million in additional funds for survival of arts practitioners – Saifuddin

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 9  — An additional RM8 million will be channeled to the Malaysian Cultural Economic Development Agency (CENDANA) to implement programmes that will help in the survival and sustainability of arts and culture practitioners affected by the COVID-19 pandemic

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said the additional allocation would benefit between 500 to 700 arts practitioners and administrative workers.

It can also generate 2,000 job opportunities involving nine arts and culture programmes covering grants, capacity building workshops, creative platforms and documentation, Saifuddin told a virtual media conference after announcing the recipients of the CENDANA recovery initiative fund under the Malaysian Creative Industry Stimulus Package (PRISMA) today.

“In total, within 12 months, an allocation of RM17 million has been approved by CENDANA to benefit the arts and culture sector. Now, an additional allocation of RM8 million under PEMULIH (National People’s Well-Being and Economic Recovery Package) will be administered by CENDANA for the benefit of arts and culture practitioners, artisans and administrative workers,” he said.

Saifuddin said the RM17 million allocation approved by CENDANA, namely RM10 million under the National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA) and RM7 million under PRISMA, had ensured the survival of arts and culture practitioners impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and ensured the continued production of local arts and cultural works

He said CENDANA today announced the approval of an allocation of RM7 million under PRISMA for cultural and arts practitioners involved in the performing arts, visual arts, independent (indie) music and crafts.

It is a continuation of the RM10 million that was approved recently under the CENDANA-PENJANA recovery initiative which has generated more than 3,000 new jobs, he said.

Saifuddin said the Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) was committed to providing continuous support to the arts and culture sector which play an important role in the country and in 2020, adding that KKMM had implemented the PENJANA plan for the creative industry with a total of RM225 million to support the sector to weather the COVID-19 pandemic.

For 2021, a total of RM89.2 million has been announced under the PRISMA initiative to help the arts and culture sector survive the pandemic situation, he said.

“KKKM is very grateful and thankful for the additional allocation of RM100 million for the creative industry under PEMULIH and is committed to rejuvenating the industry, and will continue to strive to protect and maintain businesses and jobs in this industry,” he said.

CENDANA, a unit under MyCreative Ventures, has been jointly responsible with MyCreative Ventures to manage PRISMA that was launched on Feb 5 this year.

Saifuddin said among the programmes under PRISMA that attracted his attention was the Adiguru CENDANA programme which aimed to encourage local communities who were committed to their arts, traditions and heritage to be collectively involved in the country’s growth.

He said the programme also ensured the continuity of Malaysian traditional art forms by recognising the achievements of Adiguru in traditional performing arts, visual arts, music and crafts throughout Malaysia.

Meanwhile, CENDANA chief executive officer Izan Satrina Mohd Sallehuddin said CENDANA had so far approved allocations for about 1,000 recipients, created employment opportunities for more than 11,000 Malaysians and upgraded the skills of more than 13,000 industry players since starting operations in 2017.

She said part of the efforts included recognising the contribution of Adiguru CENDANA which has played an important role in enhancing the sustainability and preservation of traditional arts.

This includes those championing the traditional arts in Hokkien Potehi (Glove Puppet Theater), Mak Yong, Kuda Kepang, Mah Meri Orang Asli Mask Dance, Padang Changkat Gambus Dance, Gambus traditional music, Syair or traditional Malay poem, Wayang Kulit and the Main Puteri dance, he said.
