1,438 YOUTHS PARTICIPATING IN PRE-QUALIFICATION OF WORLDSKILLS THIS YEAR

A total of 1,438 people are participating in the youth category of the WorldSkills Malaysia Youth (WSMB) competition for the pre-qualification stage which is being held from May 9 to June 17 in 15 locations nationwide.

The Skills Development Department (JPK) said in a statement that this year’s pre-qualification competition also involved 149 participants in the instructor category of the WorldSkills Malaysia Instructor (WSMP) competition and 294 participants in the junior category of Junior Skills Malaysia (JSM).

One of the competition locations in the fields of drone operation; electronics; mechatronics, automobile technology; painting and decorating; and floristry is the Centre for Instructor Advanced Skill Training (CIAST) here.

WSMB, WSMP and JSM are national-level skills competitions organised annually by JPK, the Ministry of Human Resources which involves the cooperation of the Ministry of Works with 33 areas of skills being contested this year.

“The winner who gets a platinum or gold medal with the highest score among all the participants will be selected and awarded the Prime Minister’s Golden Hand Award which will be presented by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at a ceremony scheduled for Oct 18.

“The winners of the competition who are successful in the pre-qualification stage will then compete in the final stage which is scheduled for September,” said the statement.

For the winners of the WSMB competition with excellent achievements, they will represent the country at the international skills competition namely WorldSkills Asia (WSA) 2023 and WorldSkills Competition (WSC) 2024.
