Frost & Sullivan: Colombian and Peruvian Contact Center Outsourcers Focus on the Americas

-- Spain's dwindling contribution to the offshoring segment has compelled market participants to alter their geographical strategy

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, Aug. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A mix of quality and competitive costs ensured that the contact center outsourcing services markets in Colombia and Peru were among the most dynamic markets in Latin America up until last year. Since 2013, the market has lost some of its pace as competitive pressures have intensified with the entry of many participants. To navigate the transformed landscape, contact center outsourcing service providers will have to keep up with new entrants' world-class practices, which have elevated quality standards in both countries.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Colombia and Peru Contact Center Outsourcing Services Markets 2014, finds that the Colombian market earned $1,045.6 million in 2013 and estimates this to reach $2,206.2 million in 2020. Peru's market revenues stood at $385.4 million in 2013 and this is projected to go up to $647.3 million in 2020.

"In the Colombian contact center outsourcing services market, domestic business still accounts for more than 70 percent of the revenues. However, revenues from the offshoring segment are growing at a faster rate than those from domestic business as a result of multiple deals with the United States," said Frost & Sullivan Information & Communication Technologies Industry Analyst Sebastian Menutti. "Meanwhile, in the Peruvian market, nearshoring from South American countries such as Argentina and Chile is bringing in new business."

In 2013, Spain once again emerged as the main destination that offshored work to contact center outsourcing service providers in Colombia and Peru. Nevertheless, offshoring revenues generated from Spain in 2013 decreased in Peru and suffered from a growth slowdown in Colombia, owing to the recent Spanish economic crisis.

"Consequently, several Colombian and Peruvian contact center outsourcers were forced to refocus their business models and direct their commercial efforts either to domestic businesses in the high-performing local economies or businesses in other countries likely to avail offshoring services," noted Menutti. "Prime targets for developing the offshoring segment have been South and North America, which are expected to become the dominant regions driving this segment by 2020."

SEA-US: Global Consortium to Build Cable System Connecting Indonesia, the Philippines, and the United States

MANILA, Philippines, Aug. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A consortium of seven global telecommunications companies agreed today to cooperate in the construction and operation of a new submarine cable system that directly connects Southeast Asia and the United States with NEC Corporation as the system supplier. The Southeast Asia - United States "SEA-US" consortium consists of PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin), Globe Telecom, RAM Telecom International (RTI), Hawaiian Telcom, Teleguam Holdings (GTA), GTI Corporation (a member of the Globe Telecom group of companies) and Telkom USA.

"The SEA-US project is connected seamlessly with Telkom's Domestic Backbone, and the cable will provide unmatched latency from Indonesia to the United States," said Syarif Syarial Ahmad, President Director of Telin. "The project will also support Indonesia's strong economic growth and its government's Master Plan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia's Economic Development (MP3EI). We began pursuing SEA-US in 2013 and are very proud to be a part of this historic project that marks the first gateway from the east part of Indonesia to the world."

In addition, Gil Genio, Chief Operating Officer for International and Business Markets of Globe Telecom, stated, "Our country has become the preferred destination for the outsourcing and offshoring industry, including major call centers, business process outsourcing providers, global financial institutions and a host of other multinationals that require very large bandwidth. We have also seen the explosion of the mobile Internet, enabling a new lifestyle for our mobile customers and businesses. The SEA-US project will enable Globe to meet tomorrow's bandwidth needs, and is part of our effort to provide a great customer experience on their mobile and other devices, as well as add even more diverse options for companies to connect to the U.S."

Russ Matulich, Chief Executive Officer of RTI, continued, "The SEA-US Cable will provide much needed Asia-US connectivity and will be the fastest cable connecting Southeast Asia with the United States. It provides essential route diversity from the North Pacific and taps into to the strong economic growth of more than 1.5 billion businesses and consumers who are internet savvy and data hungry."

"Guam is a strategic location in the Pacific which allows GTA to successfully connect the Asia Pacific region to the United States. GTA's expansive and redundant network enables secure interconnectivity to other cables, increasing Guam's importance to future cable builds," said Robert Haulbrook, CEO and President of GTA.

Eric Yeaman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hawaiian Telcom, said that "Hawaiian Telcom's participation in the SEA-US project strengthens Hawaii's role as a key strategic hub for traffic diversity and redundancy between the US and Asia. Additionally, investing in the SEA-US system will allow Hawaiian Telcom to efficiently meet its internal long-term Trans-Pacific capacity needs, as our customers increasing demand for bandwidth continues to grow."

The SEA-US submarine cable system links the five areas and territories of Manado (Indonesia), Davao (Philippines), Piti (Guam), Oahu (Hawaii, United States) and Los Angeles (California, United States). The system will be approximately 15,000 kilometers in length, avoiding earthquake prone areas in East Asia, and thereby helping to ensure stable connectivity.

When completed in the fourth quarter of 2016 at an approximate cost of US $250 million, the cable system will provide an additional 20Tb/s capacity, connecting Indonesia and the Philippines to the United States with state-of-the-art 100G technology. This capacity will cater to the exponential growth of bandwidth demand between both continents.

"Backed by more than 40 years of experience in constructing over 200,000 kilometers of submarine cable infrastructure, NEC is one of the world's top vendors of submarine cable systems," said Mr. Naoki Yoshida, General Manager at NEC's Submarine Network Division. "The construction of this advanced system enables NEC to capitalize on its experience and contribute to worldwide communications by expanding connectivity and capacity to this increasingly important Trans-Pacific route."

Frost & Sullivan: Big Data Evolution Fast-tracks the Development of Smart Buildings

- Increasing partnerships between data analytics and building technology providers highlight the immense value big data can bring

LONDON, Aug. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The convergence of next-generation IT solutions such as the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, big data and data analytics will open up new business opportunities for both building technology and ICT companies. More importantly, these platforms are expected to become the pillars of smart building evolution in terms of technology, business value and customer satisfaction.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Big Data as an Enabler for Smart Buildings, finds that urbanization, the connectivity and convergence of smart technologies, and communication between smart devices are the three big trends that will drive the development of the smart buildings industry.

"The ongoing convergence of operating technology and IT indicates that key technology advancements will gather pace in the fields of data analytics, cloud services and IoT," said Frost & Sullivan Energy and Environmental Research Analyst Anirudh Bhaskaran. "Big data, especially, will emerge as a more valuable delivery model owing to affordable upfront costs and lower resource usage."

In addition, big data provides an open platform that enables the integration of data from different systems. The technology's scalability is another crucial benefit that will underpin its value in the smart building space.

The integration of ICT and building technologies to satisfy the technical demand for big data and analytics applications will lead to new partnerships between data analytic and building technology providers in the near future. Tier I building technology participants, in particular, will welcome strategic alliances with data analytic vendors.

"Local government focus on technology, policy, economy and infrastructure will lend further momentum to smart building initiatives and, gradually, lead to their evolution into smart cities in the next 10 to 15 years," added Bhaskaran. "The BRIC countries – Brazil, Russia, India and China – are likely to invest strongly in smart buildings and smart cities due to expanding population, economic growth and rapid urbanization."

As a result, organizations involved in both big data and building technologies will be at the frontline of the smart building space when the two industries merge into a single platform.

City of London Police and Kaspersky Lab Lead the Way in Combatting Fraud

-- Kaspersky Lab joins forces with City of London Police to educate police forces and businesses across Britain on ways to tackle cybercrime

LONDON, Aug. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Cybercrime plays a huge part in fraud offence numbers today, with seven out of ten scams now internet-related, according to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau. The complex and alien nature of such crimes, however, means that they are not only difficult to combat, but also to detect and understand. To help tackle the rise in cybercrime, City of London Police has enlisted internet security experts, Kaspersky Lab, to train its police officers at all levels on these ever-growing threats. This innovative training program, the first of its kind with UK law enforcement, will provide them with the skills and knowledge to identify and resolve these crimes -- from an individual victim encountering fraud during an online shopping-spree to a business losing thousands of pounds from a targeted attack.

The scheme will extend into further services and large enterprises across the UK, aiming to upskill UK industry on ways to protect themselves against cyber-attacks. Coupled with theoretical knowledge, the week-long training program allows for a real hands-on experience, teaching vital skills such as inspecting network traffic, analysing hard-drive images and decompiling malicious software using specialised training tools and methodology developed by Kaspersky Lab. The training will also address the need for businesses to improve fraud reporting, to ensure police services and security agencies have a clear view of the issue.

The first of these programs was attended and successfully completed by the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau in February this year. While the course places emphasis on threats that are aimed at financial organisations and government bodies, which are the top targets for online fraud in the UK, the skills learnt by attendees will also be applicable when combatting the cyber threats the general public face.

"As the complexity of cybercrime constantly increases, it's imperative that the service's knowledge of such threats increases at the same pace," comments David Clark, Det Chief Supt Economic Crime Directorate of the City of London Police. "With over 21,000 computer misuse crimes in the UK in the first quarter of 2014[1], it's clear that people and businesses are at risk and need protecting. The UK police service needs to be ready to identify these crimes and have the knowledge to tackle them head on. This partnership with Kaspersky Lab further underlines our role as the national policing lead for economic crime and will enhance our capability for combating fraud and cybercrime nationwide," adds David.

"It's an honor for Kaspersky Lab to use this opportunity to equip City of London Police with our extensive and predictive security intelligence," commented Veniamin Levtsov, Vice-President, Corporate Sales and Business Development. "We have already spent 17 years developing a set of powerful techniques for data acquisition and investigation of cyber-crimes, and it should become a valuable tool for the law enforcement authorities in the United Kingdom."

About City of London Police / Action Fraud

Since April 2013, Action Fraud has been responsible for recording all non-emergency fraud crime reports for police forces in England and Wales. One year on, Action Fraud now collects and transfers to the NFIB approximately 18,000 reports of fraud, 15,000 information reports and 2,000 computer misuse reports each month coming from members of the public as well as small, medium and large businesses.

The City of London Police already runs the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB). The NFIB is the central repository for fraud and cybercrime intelligence, analysing millions of reports (including those from Action Fraud) to identify serial fraudsters, organised crime gangs and emerging and established crime threats. This intelligence is used to provide law enforcement agencies across England and Wales with the information they need to launch criminal investigations and to raise awareness across the country and in the public and private sector of the latest threats. The City of London Police is now responsible for the entire end-to-end Action Fraud and NFIB service -- with all staff located in the same office in the Square Mile.

Singapore Consolidates Position as Regional Internet IP Hub

NetNames launches online brand protection services for Asia region

SINGAPORE, Aug. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- NetNames, the global leader in online brand protection and domain name management, today announces the launch of its full suite of brand protection and corporate domain name management services for the Asia region. NetNames is launching its services at a reception hosted by British Deputy High Commissioner, Judith Slater, at Eden Hall in Singapore on September 2nd.

NetNames entered the Singapore market in May 2014 following the merger with corporate domain name management company Adicio. South East Asian corporations now have access to NetNames' industry-leading online brand protection services, already used by many global brands to combat online counterfeiters and cyber criminals.

With the internet now offering over 1,000 new domain name suffixes, the risk of cybersquatters operating phishing or pirate websites has multiplied dramatically. Even before the launch of the new generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs), online threats were on the rise. For instance, in 2012, Google reported a 524% increase in requests to remove links to websites hosting pirated content. The introduction of new web address endings also comes at a time when businesses are becoming more aware of the threats posed by cyber criminals and paying more attention to the need to safeguard their Intellectual Property.

In light of these developments, the Singapore Copyright Act was amended in July 2014 to make it easier for complainants to seek an injunction disabling access to infringing content online, consolidating the city-state's position as a regional hub for registering trademarks and Intellectual Property.

Gary McIlraith, CEO of NetNames Group, comments: "In recent years, the Asia region has grown into a global economic powerhouse, home to an ever-increasing number of large corporations with an international reach. As internet usage in the region grows, these brands will need to ensure they are protecting their reputation, revenues and customers from online counterfeiters and cybersquatters. By launching our full range of brand protection services in Singapore, we hope to contribute to the city's role as an Internet IP hub in the region, whilst helping South East Asian brands be present, protected and prosperous online."

Judith Slater, Regional Director of UK Trade & Investment and Deputy British High Commissioner to Singapore, adds: "We are delighted by the launch of NetNames Group's brand protection and corporate domain name management services for the Asia region here in Singapore.

"Singapore and the UK have similar goals in promoting their information economy. In June 2013, the UK PM David Cameron, with then Science Minister David Willetts, launched the Information Economy Strategy as part of the UK's Industrial Strategy that set out an effective road-map to establish the UK's lead in information technology and infrastructure. The strategy helps identify steps for the British government and the private sector to work together on this goal.

"A Frost and Sullivan study states that total revenues from business to consumer e-commerce in six Southeast Asian countries, including Singapore, reached SGD$5.6 billion in 2013. It is expected to grow at 37.6 percent annually to reach SGD$27.2 billion by 2018. This is very impressive growth and I look forward to seeing NetNames Group help an increasing number of companies protect their brands online as they take advantage of this expanding industry."

About NetNames

NetNames is the world's largest corporate brand protection specialists. Through its industry leading brand protection, domain name management, online security, anti-piracy and acquisitions services, the company is responsible for keeping corporate brands one step ahead of online threats across the globe.
