Eyelitz proves an outstanding musical band

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 — Being visually impaired is not a hindrance to becoming talented musicians as proven by members of the Eyelitz Buskers with their outstanding performance.

The four members of the group have great talent in playing the guitar, keyboard, drum and electric guitar, despite being visually impaired, and their performance captivates the audience.

The group’s vocalist, Mohd Nazri Mohd Sahri, 30, who was born blind, proved to be a talented singer and guitarist.

He started his singing career at the age of 14 by playing the guitar. The sound of he guitar caught his attention since he was four after hearing his uncle play the musical instrument,

“I learn (to play the guitar) by listening or by heart. We (the blind) listen from the heart and we can know the key, the note, whether it is A minor or B minor, ”he told Bernama when met after the “ Kau dan Aku” mini concert at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre yesterday.

Another member of the group, Muhammad Tirmizi Muslim, 30, who plays the electric guitar, expressed his gratitude for being given the opportunity to be in the concert , which was held in conjunction with the. International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which falls on Dec 3.

Tirmizi, who also does street performance or busking with the group, said he was nervous at first when performing at the concert, but the stage fright disappeared when he heard the applause and voices of support from the audience.

The group’s drummer, Mohamad Zaki Norizan, 28, a graduate in Malay Studies from Universiti Malaya, said he lost his sight when he was five years old after being diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer (Hodgkin lymphoma), a cancer of the lymphatic system which is part of the immune system.

Apart from busking, Zaki said he hoped to be able to get a more secure job to develop his musical talent.

Meanwhile, keyboard player Mohd Safiq Arshad, 29, who was also born blind, said he learned to play the musical instrument by himself when he was in primary school by using his own hearing and hand movements.

“I learn to play the keyboard by myself. I did not attend any class,” he added.

Boy falls to his death at condo in Batu Caves

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 — A five-year-old boy died after he is believed to have fallen from the 16th floor of a condominium unit in Batu Caves, Gombak, here.

The victim’s aunt, Fauziah Hanum Cik Ros, 36, said she was showering when the incident occurred at about 10.30 am today.

“Once I had finished showering, I realised that he was not around. I then called Bella (the victim’s mother) who was out at that time,” she told reporters at the scene here.

Fauziah said the victim’s mother, in her 20s, told her to look for her child in every room, especially near the windows.

The victim was known to be an active child who loved to climb on windows.

Meanwhile, Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said preliminary investigations indicated that the victim was believed to have been playing and climbed onto a bed by the window.

He said the victim was being taken care of by his aunt when the incident happened and the police believed he fell out of the window.

“The window did not have a grill and further investigations are ongoing,” he said when contacted.

Nik Ezanee said the case is being investigated under Section 33 of the Child Act 2001 for leaving a child without reasonable supervision.

Krishh Haran, 8, receives MBR recognition for being youngest contributor to foundation

ISKANDAR PUTERI, Nov 17 — Krishh Haran Nair, who is the youngest contributor to Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor using the proceeds of his book sales, has received recognition from The Malaysia Book Of Records (MBR) today.

MBR senior record consultant Edwin Yeoh said the eight-year-old boy had been listed in the MBR for the ‘Highest Amount Contributed to a Foundation Through Book Sales By a Child’.

He described the RM7,000 Krishh Haran had contributed to the foundation as a large amount for a child.

“We often hear of companies or adults donating, but rarely do we hear of children having such a mentality of wanting to help the less fortunate,” he told reporters after the ceremony to present the MBR Certificate to Krishh Haran at his school, Sunway International School, Sunway Iskandar, here today.

Krishh Haran said he was thrilled to see his name listed in the MBR and was proud of his achievement.

“I am feeling very proud of myself and happy to have my name in the MBR,” he said.

His mother, R. Jayanthimarlin said the recognition was not only a source of pride for her and her husband N. Ramakrishnan, but also for all her son’s school teachers.

Krishh Haran’s noble efforts to contribute to the foundation had also caught the attention of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, who expressed his admiration for the boy through a post on his official Facebook page recently.

Krishh Haran was recently reported to have said that he raised RM7,000 through the sales of his first book, titled ‘The Mysterious War to the Deep’, and donated food aid boxes to the foundation using the money.

Krishh Haran, who is the only child in his family, said he intends to help more people, especially children who were orphaned as a result of COVID-19, adding that he was in the process of producing the second series of the book titled ‘Pillar and The Golden Sword’.
