COLLECTING ACTION FIGURES IS SELF-THERAPY, SAYS TOY COLLECTOR

Guests who enter two special rooms at Adam Shahruddin’s residence in Dengkil, Selangor, will be in awe seeing thousands of toys neatly arranged to decorate the rooms.

The two rooms, measuring 1,000-square foot, house popular action figures from television series, movies and comics which were the craze of children from around the world in the late 80s and 90s.

Among his collection of rare action figures are a Darth Vader (Legend Edition) helmet (Star Wars), hoverboard (Back to the Future), Proton Pack (Ghostbusters), a life-size replica of Han Solo in carbonite (Star Wars) and Magneto’s helmet (X-Men).

Adam, 38, said he started to collect these action figures from the time he was still schooling with some of the toys initially collected as gifts from his family members.

“I started collecting these toys when I was still in primary school and at that time there were many animation series screened on television such as Ninja Turtles, ThunderCats, Power Rangers, Transformers and others.

“These series had big followers among children including myself. There were also some toys received as gifts from family members for excelling in exams and I still keep them today.

“When I started working in 2007 as a duty manager at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), I started to spend my salary, little by little, to buy toys and action figures. To be honest, I am not sure how much the actual collection is worth, but I have spent thousands of ringgit to collect all of them,” he said.

Asked about the satisfaction of collecting toys, Adam who is also the eldest of four siblings, said it was a form of therapy for him to recall beautiful memories from his childhood days.

“Some people say it’s a complete waste, that it’s better to spend money on other things, but collecting these toys is the same as other hobbies like fishing, it has its own fans, so I don’t think it is wrong.

“My wife and family also gave their support as this hobby allows me to spend more time with my family,” said Adam, who obtained his toys from local sellers and abroad.

Adam, who now runs a business selling nasi lemak, explains that his collection of action figures has a high market value, especially among collectors, depending on how he looked after them and the edition available.

For example, Adam said, Spiderman comics signed by Stan Lee, he bought them for RM2,000 but now the value reaches RM5,000 to RM7,000.

The same goes for the Darth Vader (Legend Edition) helmet produced by Sideshow, which was bought for RM1,500 in 2011 and is now worth tens of thousands of ringgit, he said.

Presently, Adam said he did not have any plan to part ways with his collection. He sees them as a long-term investment to be used in times of emergency and for his children’s education in the future.

HAJ PILGRIMS ADVISED TO PREPARE FOR HOT WEATHER

Haj pilgrims visiting Madinah are reminded to be physically and mentally ready to face the hot weather here.

Madinah operations director Ashrof Shamsuddin said the temperature here currently reaches 40 degrees Celsius during the day and 26 degrees Celsius at night.

He also said the weather in Saudi Arabia is hot and dry compared to Malaysia, which is hot and humid.

“The Malaysian Health Ministry has reminded pilgrims to drink plenty of plain water, stay in a place that is not directly exposed to hot weather and avoid tight clothing,” he told reporters here.

He also reminded pilgrims to join the WhatsApp group according to their respective flight schedules to get the latest information regarding their daily activities during this year’s haj season.

According to Ashrof, the initiative implemented by Tabung Haji (TH) this year aims to make it easier for pilgrims to obtain information compared to the previous method of issuing notices.

“The activities of the groups vary, so having the information at the fingertips will be more convenient for them,” he said.

For senior citizens who do not have the application, he said their roommates are expected to share information provided by TH from time to time.

Meanwhile, Ashrof said for the first phase, 45 flights carrying Malaysian pilgrims will land at the Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport here in stages starting on May 21.

He said the pilgrims would be accommodated in three buildings here for a six-day stay before leaving for Makkah.

Various activities have been lined up, including visiting the tomb of Prophet Muhammad, entering the Raudhah in Nabawi Mosque and visiting historical places in Madinah.

“Preparations are going smoothly, and we are ready to receive duyufurrahman (Allah’s guests),” he said, adding that a total of 14,000 pilgrims will arrive in Madinah in stages.

Impulse Dynamics Announces First Implant for CCM-D™ Clinical Trial

World’s First Device Combining CCM Therapy With an ICD in a Single Rechargeable Implant That Treats Both Heart Failure Symptoms and Sudden Cardiac Death

MARLTON, N.J., May 18, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Impulse Dynamics plc, a global medical device company dedicated to improving the lives of people with heart failure, announced the completion of the first implantation for the INTEGRA-D clinical trial, designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of two proven cardiac therapies combined — CCM® and an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) — in a single device (CCM-D). The Optimizer® IntegraTM CCM-D System delivers CCM therapy to improve quality of life and reduce heart failure symptoms, and ICD therapy to treat life-threatening arrhythmias that may cause sudden cardiac death. The investigational technology is rechargeable with long battery life, potentially reducing the need for replacement procedures.

The journey of a heart failure patient often involves debilitating symptoms and declining quality of life.

CCM therapy delivered by the Optimizer System improves quality of life and helps patients feel better. The study will assess the performance of the CCM-D device in effectively treating episodes of ventricular tachycardia and/or ventricular fibrillation while also providing CCM treatment for heart failure. Patients enrolled in the study will receive the Optimizer Integra CCM-D System, and will be followed for at least two years.

Award winning Ghotmeh, who is designing the 2023 Serpentine Pavilion, creates work that sits at the intersection of art, architecture and design. Kiplin Metals Submits Exploration Permits for the Cluff Lake Road (“CLR”) Uranium Project in Saskatchewan

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, May 18, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Kiplin Metals Inc. (TSX-V: KIP) (the “Company” or “Kiplin“) announces the submission of exploration permits for its upcoming summer exploration program at its key Cluff Lake Road (CLR) uranium project. The permits are currently under review by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment for approval.

The CLR property is situated adjacent to F3 Uranium Corp.’s (“F3”) (previously known as Fission 3.0) prominent Paterson Lake North (PLN) project. In November 2022, F3 uncovered the JR high-grade uranium zone, which recently reported intersections (refer to F3 press release dated February 6, 2023) in drill hole PLN22-038 of 11.0 meters averaging 4.20% triuranium octoxide, including a high-grade 4.5-meter interval averaging 9.8% U3O8. The JR uranium zone represents the newest basement-hosted uranium deposit in the Athabasca, similar to the Triple R uranium deposit owned by Fission Uranium Corp.

Kiplin’s summer program, contracted to Grander Exploration, will involve geophysical surveying focused on the central part of the property. The survey will target multiple prospective areas already identified within the CLR property, including:

  • Three parallel (South-Southeast) conductors spanning a width of one kilometre on F3’s PLN property, referred to as the North Conductor Complex, which extend onto the western part of the CLR property.
  • Several other magnetic lineaments within the CLR property, both parallel and intersecting the North Conductor Complex trend.
  • Multiple Alpha Track radon gas sensor anomalies previously completed (2017) and spectrometer radioactivity anomalies detected by the Company in 2022 (refer to Press Release, November 23, 2022). Background radioactivity readings obtained using a handheld Radiation Solutions RS-125 Super-SPEC gamma-ray spectrometer (*) range between 20-50 counts per second (cps), with over 100 anomalous boulders in the 100-500 cps range identified.

It is important to note that spectrometer readings are not directly or uniformly correlated to uranium grades of the measured rock sample and should be considered as an initial indication of radioactive material presence only.

The Company believes that the CLR property’s combination of multiple EM (electromagnetic) conductors, magnetic lineaments, radon gas, and radioactivity anomalies make it a highly prospective location for discovering a basement-hosted uranium deposit.

Kiplin intends to conduct its exploration activities in compliance with the strictest environmental management standards and maintain open communication with local stakeholders, including indigenous communities, throughout the permitting, exploration, and closure phases.
