Damaged road: Orang Asli parents worried their children will miss school

GUA MUSANG, Dec 26 (Bernama) — The authorities have been urged to find the best way to transport 175 Orang Asli students from Pos Gob to their respective schools to begin their new school session after their land routes were damaged by rain, making them impassable.

Pos Gob Orang Asli Village Security Development Committee (JPKKOA) chairman Uda Alang said some of the 175 students could not return to their hostels and attend the last school session due to the damaged roads and collapsed bridge.

“We have been facing difficulties to go out to the (Gua Musang) town for the past three months because the logging road is damaged and the Blaer Bridge has collapsed.

“We are worried about allowing the children to go to school because of the badly damaged road,” he told reporters when met here.

Uda said he hoped the students could be transported to their respective schools here by mercy flights.

Meanwhile, Pandak Ngah, 65, said some of the 175 students are those who will sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) next year.

“The long distance to the school has caused many parents to not allow their children, especially the young ones, to go to school for the past three months,” he said.

Nenggiri assemblyman Ab Aziz Yusoff said he would hold discussions with JAKOA and other government agencies to find a solution to the issue.

“I recommend that the government arrange mercy flights to transport the Orang Asli children to their primary or secondary schools,” he said.

MPAJ to revoke licence of restaurant with rat seen eating fried chicken

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 26 (Bernama) — The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will issue a Notice of Confirmation of Licence Cancellation (NPPL) to a restaurant in Pandan Indah where a rat was caught on video eating fried chicken in a food warmer container.

MPAJ president Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said the immediate licence cancellation was a follow-up to the Health Ministry’s (MOH) notice of closure, which was issued by the Selangor Health Department to the restaurant on Dec 24 after the video had gone viral on social media.

“Action to seal the premises will be taken if it is found to be still operating after the issuance of NPPL. Any application for a new licence will only be considered if all conditions are fully met, especially those regarding cleanliness,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Fauzi said inspection records showed that this restaurant was rated Grade B for cleanliness in June 2021 and January 2022.

He said MPAJ conducted regular inspections of food premises to ensure that they abided by all terms and regulations set by the council.

As at Nov 30 this year, 1,057 food premises had been inspected and 259 compounds issued under 9 (f) of MPAJ Food Handling By-Laws 2007 and 19(1) (d) of MPAJ Food Establishment By-Laws 2007, he said.

The public can report any dirty food premises to MPAJ through the http://aduan.mpaj.gov.my website, he said.

Yesterday, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said MOH had issued a 14-day shutdown order and six compound notices to the restaurant following the circulation of the video.

KUALA TERENGGANU, Dec 26 (Bernama) — The RM1,000 special cash assistance to each head of household affected by floods in Terengganu is expected to be distributed from January to February, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

He said a total of 10,000 heads of households were expected to receive the aid, which aimed at easing their burden.

“(The distribution) will take some time…maybe one or two months, we will manage it soon after we get the list of the victims,” he told reporters after opening the Terengganu Football Association (PBSNT) annual congress here today.

Ahmad Samsuri said the state government is now focusing on post-flood clean-up work to enable the affected victims to return home safely.

“The most important thing is that all the victims can return home. This week, our focus is on the cleaning work first. Other needs will be reviewed by the respective JPKK (Village Development and Security Committee) since not everyone has the same problem,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Samsuri, who is Rhu Rendang assemblyman, said he would ask the federal government to speed up the phase two of the Baroh Tok Jiring flood mitigation project to overcome the severe flooding problem in the Kuala Nerus area.

He said the phase one project that had been implemented by the state government before also needs to be improved to deal with unexpected floods like what happened last week.

“Based on the current situation, the old mitigation needs to be improved. Insya-Allah, JKR and JPS will find a way to resolve this matter,” he added.
