Replica of longest Jalur Gemilang costume worn by Sudirman on display

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) — A replica of the longest Malaysian flag-based special costume worn by the late Datuk Sudirman Arshad is among his personal collections which can be seen up close at the Fahrenheit88 shopping centre here in conjunction with the National Month.

A replica of the iconic costume is now on display at the ‘Warisan Sudir: Tribute To Asia’s No. 1 Entertainer’ exhibition that takes place on the second floor of the mall.

The National Archive of Malaysia’s Statesmen Archive Division director Hanizah Jonoh said the 120-metre costume was worn by the singer while performing at the closing ceremony of the 15th SEA Games on Aug 31, 1989, at the Merdeka Stadium.

“The original costume (the longest Malaysian flag) is being kept by the National Archives but is not in a suitable condition to be brought out and displayed to the public for now.

“So Fahrenheit88 made a replica with a similar size and material to give the public a chance to see this iconic costume up close,” he told Bernama at the exhibition’s opening ceremony here today.

The exhibition was officiated by the Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah who also visited over 60 personal collections of the talented entertainer.

Among the other collections on display were actual stage costumes that were worn by the celebrity while performing, ‘songkets’ worn during photography sessions, as well as hats and album covers.

Hanizah said the exhibition would also highlight Sudirman as a patriotic icon of the country as he was known to possess a high spirit of patriotism, which was often expressed during his performances.

The exhibition is being held from Aug 12 to Sept 30 in conjunction with the 65th National Day.

STPM: Discipline, not skipping online classes key to Nurul Aina’s success

RAUB, Aug 18 (Bernama) — Being highly disciplined and not skipping online classes during the Movement Control Order period paid off for Nurul Aina Amira Razak, 20, when she scored 4As in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) 2021 examination.

Nurul Aina Amira, a literature stream student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (LKTP) Tersang here, also described her excellent results as a joint effort with her friends who contributed to her success.

“My friends and I helped each other, especially in the subjects that we were strong in, and this made it easier for us to understand the topics better, which ultimately allowed us to answer questions well.

“We always made notes after school hours so that they can be read easily at any time and ensure that all assignments given by our teachers were completed as soon as possible.”

The youngest of five siblings said this to reporters when met at the school today, right after the press conference announcing the STPM 2021 results for schools in Pahang.

Her schoolmate, Emylia Sunyoto, 20, said having a full concentration in class and studying for at least two hours daily helped her score 4As in the exam.

Apart from that, Emylia said she preferred to use interactive media when doing revisions as it helped her study and memorise better, compared to just reading a book.

“I make sure to immediately ask the teacher if there are things that I do not understand. I also diligently made my own notes to help me improve my understanding (of the subjects),” she said.

Meanwhile, Pahang Education Department deputy director Abdul Rahim Mohd Yunus said 59 candidates for STPM 2021 in the state scored a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.0, an increase of 0.68 per cent compared to the previous year.

He said eight candidates were from the science stream while the rest were students from the literature stream.

STPM results : Hardship spurs student’s hunger to succeed

CHUKAI, Aug 18 (Bernama) — With grit and determination, Halimatus Sa’diyah Abdul Faal used her family’s hardships to motivate herself which finally paid off when she achieved the perfect score in the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) 2021 examination which was announced today.

Halimatus Sa’diyah, 20, from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sultan Ismail here obtained 4A in Bahasa Melayu, General Studies, Geography and Economics with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.0.

According to her, the achievement means a lot to her and her family since her father, Abdul Faal Ibrahim, 53, only works as a labourer, while mother Saleha Ashaari, 48, runs a food stall in front of the house to make ends meet for her 10 siblings.

“Our life is really difficult because my father’s income is inconsistent while we siblings are all still in school. Sometimes school expenses have to be rationed.

“In fact, every day, my father has to go back and forth several times as far as 40 kilometres from our house in Kijal to send me and my siblings to school on a dilapidated motorcycle. If there are extra classes, Dad would rush from work to make sure we don’t fall behind in our studies,” she said when met at the STPM 2021 result announcement ceremony at SMK Sultan Ismail here today.

However, she said hardship has not made her weak, instead, it has encouraged her to work harder in her studies in order to change her destiny and be a good example to her younger siblings.

“My success is the result of the sacrifices of my parents and with the help of my teachers and friends. I will not forget their deeds and will continue to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher,” she said.

Meanwhile, another outstanding student, Irene Ong Ching Shing, 21, said she was very grateful to her parents, teachers and friends for motivating her to excel in her studies.

According to Irene, her good results especially in Bahasa Melayu was really unexpected because she was quite weak in her studies and had entered a transition class before getting into Form One.

“This success will motivate me to pursue my dream of becoming a journalist,” said the lass who hails from Kampung Binjai here.

Like Halimatus Sa’diyah, Irene too scored 4A in Bahasa Melayu, General Studies, Geography and Economics with a 4.0 CGPA.
