Gov’t has not made decision to make COVID-19 vaccination compulsory – Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — The government has not made a decision to make COVID-19 vaccination compulsory, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said, however, those who had not taken the vaccine injections were encouraged to do so to enjoy various privileges, including able to return to their hometowns.

“Even for matters of worship such as performing the Umrah (minor Haj) it is also mandatory by the Saudi Arabian government, I am confident that the same condition will be imposed for permission to perform the Haj which is expected to start next year.

“The Public Service Department has issued instructions to civil servants to take the vaccine otherwise action will be taken.

“Mindef (the Ministry of Defence) … has issued a directive that whoever (military personnel) does not take the vaccine is considered to be violating Mindef’s directive, so this gives a picture that it is obligatory,” he said when asked about the possibility of Malaysia making COVID-19 vaccination mandatory.

He said this at a press conference after visiting the Seri Perak Public Housing Scheme here today.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said stern action should be taken against anti-vaccine groups that spread false news.

“These anti-vaxxers make up false stories, slander, false news and so on and indeed in our country there are many laws that allow for action to be taken for spreading false news

“(The action) is not because they are anti-vaxxers, but because the news they spread is fake news. So we can take action and we agree with what KJ (Khairy Jamaluddin) said yesterday,” he said.

Yesterday, Khairy, who is the Health Minister, said his ministry had lodged several police reports against anti-vaccine groups that spread false information that threatened public health.

Khairy through a post on his official Twitter account hoped that follow-up action, including investigation and prosecution, could be expedited.

“These (anti-vaccine) groups continue to spread false news, threaten public health and are annoying,” Khairy said.

Light touch regulation on cloud services to enhance data protection – MCMC

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — The light touch regulation on cloud services in Malaysia from Jan 1 next year is to provide data protection to users and related agencies.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said there were concerns over data security after taking into account the increasing use of cloud services in the daily lives of Malaysians.

“This regulatory approach will ensure cloud service providers maintain a high level of data security, data privacy, data protection and user data flow,” the commission said in a statement today.

MCMC said it took a cloud services regulatory approach through a licensing method so that MCMC had the flexibility to issue technical standards that could be produced with industry players.

“The imposition of any conditions to comply with such standards can only be achieved through a licensing approach. This will ensure best practices are used by cloud service providers,” according to MCMC.

According to MCMC, said it is adopting a no worse off policy approach in formulating appropriate licensing methods for cloud services.

“This means, activities that are currently exempted under the existing licensing framework will continue to be exempted,” it said.

As such, it said, cloud services will be licensed under an Application Service Provider Class (ASP (C),which is specifically designed to provide easy market access and drive industry growth.

It said all companies that provide cloud services that have local presence or through a data center in Malaysia are required to register under the licence annually.

For regulatory purposes, MCMC has defined cloud service as any service provided to end users based on a request over the Internet from a cloud computing provider’s server.

The provision of licensed activities without a license is an offense under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and as such, all service providers are advised to obtain the relevant licence before commencing their operations.

ROME, Oct. 15, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The ITA Airways era has begun: the new Italian national airline is born, with a focus on efficiency and innovation, customer satisfaction and environmental sustainability. The company will fly with a new blue livery, a symbol of the country’s unity and pride, of sport and the Italian national team. On the rudder, the Italian tricolour; on the blue background, the red and white gold ITA Airways logo and stylised icons inspired by Italy’s artistic heritage. The Alitalia brand was acquired with the aim of managing the transition to the new livery and reserving the right to future uses of the brand.

“Today is the first day of a story yet to be written – said Alfredo Altavilla, President of ITA Airways – The new brand and the new livery of our aircraft are the symbol of change, of the beginning of a different adventure. The new national airline is an integral part of Italy’s recovery strategy, and it is a result to which all stakeholders, starting with the institutions involved, have actively contributed”.

The airline will operate with a network of 44 destinations and 59 routes – 191 flights in total (24 domestic and 56 international) – which will increase to 58 destinations and 74 routes in 2022 and 74 destinations and 89 routes in 2025. Charter flights were also launched, with the first Malpensa–Fiumicino flight carrying Italian champion Inter Milan. Pending the identification of a Strategic Partner, ITA Airways will join Sky Team. ‘Volare’ is the new loyalty programme, with 4 levels: smart, plus, premium and executive. It will start with 52 aircraft (7 wide-body, 45 narrow-body) to grow to 78 in 2022, with the gradual inclusion of new-generation aircraft that will reach 75% by 2025, with 105 new aircraft. The agreement with Air Lease Corporation will provide for the leasing of an additional 31 new-generation Airbus aircraft – long-, medium- and short-haul.

“For every end there is always a new beginning – commented Fabio Lazzerini, CEO of ITA Airways – This is just the first step in an ambitious project: the creation of the new flagship airline that will connect our country to the world and represent it through the work of the women and men who are and will be part of it”.
