Fully vaccinated individuals allowed to attend sports, recreational matches from Oct 1 – PM

Fully vaccinated individuals are allowed to attend sports and recreational matches, except those under 18, effective Oct 1, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Ismail Sabri, who is also chairman of the Special Committee on COVID-19 Pandemic Management, said spectators or supporters would be required to wear face masks throughout the sporting events and no eating or drinking was allowed while in stadiums.

He said official government and private functions including inaugurations and workshops were also allowed at 50 per cent capacity in states under Phase Two and Three of the National Recovery Plan (PPN), provided that guests have received complete vaccinations, while full capacity was allowed in Phase Four states.

“Those who have yet to be vaccinated are required to undergo pre-event testing using the self-test-kit (saliva) before attending the event, witnessed by the organiser or with confirmation by medical practitioners,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, the skills training sector and industrial training centres including vocational colleges, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and others will reopen from Oct 15 in all phases of the PPN, in line with the reopening of higher learning institutions (IPT).

The additional relaxations were decided at the Special Committee on COVID-19 Pandemic Management meeting today and further details on the standard operating procedures (SOP) can be obtained on the official websites of relevant ministries and www.mkn.gov.my.

“Even though the government has provided more relaxations, I hope that the people can continue to adhere to the stipulated SOP in an effort to break the COVID-19 chain.

“The Malaysian Family is expected to continue to practice self-control and good hygiene for personal safety,” he said.

In the meantime, Ismail Sabri said the government viewed seriously the issue of violation of COVID-19 home surveillance and observation orders.

He said stern action would be taken against offenders because the irresponsible act could pose safety risks to the people and affect the government’s effort in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

GOF7 seizes smuggled items worth over RM3 mln at Malaysia-Thai border

The 7th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF7) seized various items worth RM3.04 million in 73 cases at the Malaysia-Thailand border under the COVID-19 ‘Op Benteng’ conducted from Sept 16 until today.

Its commanding officer, Supt Azhari Nusi said during that period, 56 individuals were arrested and 58 vehicles confiscated.

“The seizure cases involved several Acts under the Health Ministry, Customs Act and Paddy and Rice Regulation Act,” he said at a press conference held at the GOF Lhubok Stol Tactical Headquarters in Rantau Panjang, here, today.

Meanwhile, he said the enforcement team was currently carrying out special operations with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP)  to address the issue of Thai rice smuggling.

“The latest case involved rice seizure at 4.30 pm yesterday in a raid on an unnumbered house at Kampung Limau Purut, Rantau Panjang.

“During the raid, there was no one at the house but the inspection at an unlocked adjacent store found various types of Thai rice hidden there, with an estimated weight of 2,427 kilogrammes and worth RM11,000,” he added.

All the rice including glutinous rice and nasi dagang were suspected to have been smuggled from a neighbouring country through nearby bases and kept at the store before being sent to specific locations after monitoring the movements of the enforcement authorities.

Azhari said the GOF7 also seized a number of wild boar and fox carcasses after detaining a vehicle in Kampung Jenob, near Bukit Bunga, Tanah Merah yesterday.

“We found all the meat weighing 277 kg came from these animals in a forest in Machang and would be smuggled to neighbouring countries to be used as food,” he said, adding that a 57-year-old man was also arrested.

The suspect was handed over to the Kelantan Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further action.

RM2.92 billion allocated under First Rolling Plan of 12MP for environmental sustainability

– A total of RM2.92 billion has been allocated under the First Rolling Plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) for environmental and water sustainability, said Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

He said that from the allocation, 351 projects, comprising 277 extension projects and 74 new projects, would be implemented involving an estimated total cost of RM46.6 billion.

“The strategy drawn up under the 12MP is seen as capable of reviving the Malaysian economy that has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The green economy model approach is also very appropriate to complement the macroeconomic planning and impact analysis on environmental sustainability,” he said in a statement today.

He said the announcement of the country’s carbon target commitment, namely the net-zero emissions target as early as 2050, was also a driver for the green economy approach.

“The details of the measures to achieve this target are based on the study of Long-Term Low Emissions Development Strategies (LT-LEDS), which will be finalised by the end of 2022,” he said.

Tuan Ibrahim said the LT-LEDS would outline strategies and actions for greenhouse gas (GHG) emission mitigation for the country’s key economic sectors which would be the basis for determining the direction and target year of the country’s zero net emissions.

“I am confident that the commitment to the zero net emissions target will stimulate sustainable economic growth by driving resource efficiency and maintaining the resilience of the environmental ecosystem.

“I will ensure that the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) plays its role effectively under the third theme of the 12MP, namely ‘Boosting Sustainability’, which focuses on accelerating green growth as well as enhancing energy sustainability and transforming the water sector and strengthening environmental governance,” he said.
