SilverVax receiving 200,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses for private companies

– The Perak vaccination programme, SilverVax, is expected to provide about 200,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to private and government linked company (GLC) staff and their family members.

The chief executive officer of Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) subsidiary, Majuperak Holdings Bhd (MHB), Nizran Noordin, said about 300 companies in the state have signed up since the call for registration on July 23.

“Pharmaniaga Bhd recently appointed MHB to supply the Sinovac vaccine in Perak. Vaccination roll-out is underway at Hospital Ar-Ridzuan in Ipoh.

“MHB is also in talks with DuoPharma Biotech Bhd for the supply of the Sinopharm vaccine with EB Holdings Sdn Bhd.

“It is an important effort to ensure Perak achieves herd immunity and to support economic growth,” he said in a statement today.

He added that getting all 100,000 Perak residents fully vaccinated by the end of the year also depended on demand from business owners.

Yesterday, Malaysian Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, announced that there will be eased restrictions for the fully vaccinated, therefore Nizran said SilverVax would be a good opportunity for companies to help them recover.

SilverVax commenced on Aug 2, and PKNPk via MHB was appointed to spearhead the purchase of vaccines for vaccination centres (PPV) in order to speed up the immunisation effort for the private sector especially.

Perak Mentri Besar, Datuk Saarani Mohamad, reportedly stated that the vaccines acquired through MHB were only for private companies.

Kedah Health Dept apologises over vaccine second dose blunder

The Kedah State Health Department (JKN) has apologised to a COVID-19 vaccine recipient and her family after she was mistakenly given the wrong type of vaccine for her second dose at a vaccination centre (PPV) in Sik on Aug 5.

Kedah Health director Dr Othman Warijo said based on investigations, the mistake occurred after a nurse at the PPV failed to check the details on her vaccination card.

“The incident occurred on Aug 5 at 8.25 am at Injection Room 1, Dewan Al Hana PPV, in Sik. The recipient was a 58-year-old woman who came to the PPV to get her vaccine second dose produced by Pfizer-BioNtech.

“The mistake happened after the nurse administered the Sinovac vaccine and this mistake was noticed by other workers who then immediately informed the PPV manager and supervisor,” he said in a statement today.

He said on that day, there was more than one type of vaccine used in the hall, namely 1,043 shots for the first dose of Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine, 141 second doses of Sinovac vaccine and 223 second doses of Pfizer-BioNtech.

Explaining further, Dr Othman said isolation and lane separation for vaccine recipients heading towards the immunisation room for the first dose of Pfizer-BioNtech, the second dose of Pfizer-BioNtech and the second dose of Sinovac have been done to prevent errors.

He said vaccine handling guidelines were also issued daily by the supervisor nurse before the start of the vaccination sessions.

“The nurse involved has admitted her mistake and has personally apologised to the recipient of the vaccine. She had also been reprimanded, given counseling and taken off duty that day,” he said.

Dr Othman said as soon as the mistake was realised, the vaccine recipient was referred to a medical officer for counseling and given clarification on the side effects of the vaccine that usually occur after the shot.

“The recipient accepted the explanation and forgave the nurse. The recipient underwent observation before she was allowed home,” he said.

He said the department was very concerned over the incident and to prevent similar mistakes, PPV staff would be instructed to ensure all vaccination guidelines are followed and also monitored by the PPV supervisor or manager.

Relaxation on congregational prayers for fully vaccinated individuals a welcome relief

The government’s decision to allow congregational prayers at surau and mosques for individuals who have completed the COVID-19 vaccination beginning tomorrow is a welcome relief for worshippers that could enliven surau and mosques nationwide.

The government’s decision to give priority to fully vaccinated individuals is an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among the congregations, as well as to encourage those who wish to perform congregational prayers to complete the COVID-19 vaccination. However, the facility is still subject to the approval of the religious authority in each state.

Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said all Friday mosques and surau in the state will be allowed to reopen, limited to 30 or 50 earliest worshippers starting tomorrow.

“Worshippers including mosque officers and committee members as well as security personnel or volunteers must pass the 14-day period after completing their doses. The public can refer to the official channel of the Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS) for the list of Friday mosques and surau allowed to reopen,” he said when speaking in conjunction with the Maal Hijrah Celebration and Hijrah Merdeka Online launch held virtually n Seremban today.

He said the permission was in line with the consent of the Yang Dipertuan Besar Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir and the advice and views of the Negeri Sembilan National Security Council (MKN) as well as the state health department.

Meanwhile, Terengganu Religious Affairs Department commissioner Mat Azmi Arshad said mosques and surau in the state were allowed to hold congregational prayers for an unlimited number of worshippers beginning July 8.

He said individuals who have not received their jabs were still allowed to perform congregational prayers at mosques and surau in the state provided that they comply with the strict SOPs set to contain the COVID-19 infection.

“However, those who have yet to be fully vaccinated and senior citizens who are at risk are advised to pray at home as the Delta variant spreads very fast,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

In KEDAH, the State Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIK) said that it has yet to make any decision on allowing fully vaccinated to perform prayers at mosques and surau in the state.

Its director Mohd Yusri Md Daud said any new ruling on the SOPs would need to be discussed with the relevant parties, especially the Kedah State Health Department as the state is still logging over 1,000 COVID-19 cases.

Starting July 9, individuals who have received their COVID-19 jabs in the state are allowed to perform the obligatory prayers and Friday prayers at mosques and surau in the green, yellow and orange zones, limited to 100 worshippers (excluding officers and mosque committees).

For mosques and surau in the red zone, the department only allows 50 worshippers who have been vaccinated to perform prayers at the location.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in his announcement yesterday said the government had agreed to allow only prayer activities for worshippers who have been fully vaccinated and this applies to all phases of the National Recovery Plan (PPN).

Muhyiddin explained that an individual is recognised as fully vaccinated only 14 days after getting their second jab for two-dose vaccines such as Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac, adding that for single-dose vaccines, namely Johnson & Johnson and CanSino, the individuals must pass the 28th day from the date of injection to be recognised as having completed his or her vaccination.

The facility is also granted to non-Muslims to attend (prayers at) their houses of worship, and it is subject to approval from the National Unity Ministry, he added.
