YPM sets aside RM300,000 as disaster relief for students

KUALA NERUS, Yayasan Pelajaran Mara (YPM) has allocated RM300,000 this year to assist students affected by disasters, including floods.

Its chairman, Datuk Mohd Razman Yaacob said that, so far, the allocation under the Special School Assistance Scheme had been channelled to 750 students from eight states that were affected by floods, fires and landslides.

He said that apart from cash, they also assisted in the form of learning equipment like school uniforms and stationery.
“YPM has channelled about RM100,000 to 750 primary and secondary school students affected by various disasters.

“The eight states involved are Perak, Kedah, Federal Territory, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Pahang, Johor and Terengganu,” he said after the Pesisir Pantai Kuala Nerus social corporate responsibility programme at Sekolah Menengah (SMK) Batu Rakit here today.

A total of 176 students from four primary schools and one secondary school in the Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus districts received assistance totalling over RM30,000 at the event, with Terengganu being YPM’s ninth pesisir pantai (coastal area) CSR initiative, which began in Pulau Pangkor, Perak.
According to Mohd Razman, the initial amount of RM300,000 allocation for disaster relief would be increased should there be critical needs involving students.
