Youths secure jobs at Kedah AKM Tour

ALOR SETAR, Sept 2 (Bernama) — The Jamin Kerja Career Carnival, held in conjunction with the three-day Keluarga Malaysia Aspirations (AKM) Tour beginning today, has helped job seekers, especially youths, to secure employment.

Khalid Abdul Manaf, 19, from Pokok Sena said he was surprised when his job application as a production operator at Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Bhd (Proton) was accepted.

“I was asked to report duty on Sept 15 at Proton Shah Alam in Selangor. I will use this opportunity to the best of my ability and work hard to change my life and that of my family,” he told Bernama here.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Muhaimin Jamal Nasir, 26, said his job application was approved within an hour.

“I was a contract worker at a telco company where I only get paid if I go to work. So, I tried my luck here and went through the interview process at 10.35 am and at 11.40 am I was informed that I got the job.

“I will report duty at Proton Tanjung Malim, Perak on Sept 15,” he said.

Proton representative, Shadeli Sham A.Khalek said as of 1 pm today, a total of 10 applicants had secured jobs as production operators.

“The response was really good, many people came for the interviews and sent resumes. For this carnival, we are offering 200 jobs and maybe they will be fully filled by Sunday,” he said.

Previously, Kedah Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) director Mohamad Haron Othman said there would be more than 4,000 job vacancies offered through the carnival, with a total of 35 employers having confirmed their participation.
