YBR channels RM100,000 to B40 students in UTEM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 (Bernama) — A total of RM100,000 has been channelled to 100 B40 students at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTEM) to pursue their studies under the Early Education Financial Aid, an initiative by Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR).

YBR general manager Syaiful Rizal Abdul Ghani said in a statement today that the aid was provided to students studying for their diploma and bachelor’s degree courses to help ease their financial burden in the new semester.

He said the initiative was the foundation’s effort to support the government in providing assistance to underprivileged students to get a better education.

“I believe that this assistance can boost the students’ spirit and motivation to keep going in their effort to change their family’s fate towards a better life and create success in the future,” he added.

The assistance was granted to selected students from the B40 group identified by UTEM Student Affairs Department.

YBR has also donated the Serambi Ilmu Rakyat Digital Library or ‘SIR Corner’ to the UTEM library to help students get the latest information and scientific reading materials digitally.

Syaiful Rizal said he hoped that the digital library could spur the students in their search for knowledge, adding that it served as an alternative method to find reference sources to help them complete their theses or assignments throughout the study period.

He said 20 renowned higher education institutes in Malaysia had been selected to receive Sir Corner with an allocation of RM300,000 last year.

YBR has also allocated RM350,000 every year for the subscription and database of SIR digital materials from suppliers in its effort to inculcate reading habits among students.
