SIBU: Works to repair the burst pipe at Mile 9, Tunku Abdul Rahman Road here was completed in the wee hours yesterday morning.
A source from Sibu Water Board (SWB) said the repair was completed around 1.30am, but it would take some time for the water pressure to return to normal.
According to the source, even those staying on higher ground got their water supply back. Flushing was carried out to let out dirty water caused by the burst.
About 7,000 households here were affected by water interruption caused by a 450 mm M.S. trunk main burst on Thursday afternoon. The valve was closed at 3.34pm on Monday to isolate the leaking point from the distribution system.
The affected areas were Tunku Abdul Rahman Road, Kemuyang, Rascom Camp, Mile 13 Oya Road to Sibintek Road, Durin Link Lama Road, Salim Belalang, Sibu Jaya, Durin Link, Sungai Pak, Nibong Tada Booster.
Meanwhile, it was learned that some folks in Sibu Jaya had resorted to purchasing bottled drinks on Thursday.
When contacted yesterday, Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (Kpdnkk) Sibu branch chief Roslee Maslie said there were no cases or complaints on traders hiking the price of bottled drinks.
