Two-year-old among 800 participants of AKM Terengganu fun ride

KUALA NERUS, June 3 (Bernama) — Inspired by the courage of ‘Awang Kenit’, a two-year-old boy decided to join his family in a fun ride held in conjunction with the Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia (AKM) Terengganu programme here today.

With a blue helmet and chocolate biscuit in hand, Muhammad Syafi Adwa Muhammad Syariffudin, 2, was tucked safely in his baby seat on his father’s bike, relishing in the delight of the crowd as they crossed the finish line.

Muhammad Syafi Adwa was among the 800 riders who joined the 25-kilometre (km) ride that began and ended at the Terengganu Motor Circuit at the Terengganu Sports Complex here.

His father, Muhamad Syariffudin Awang, 31, said his son was unafraid of such activities, including cycling, and in fact, loved it even though he was still young. This has led to his son being the youngest participant in several other rides in the past.

“My whole family is into cycling, so I have brought him along since he was eight months old, and he loved it. Whatever cycling programme, almost all of us will sign up for it,” he told Bernama here today.

Muhamad Syariffudin, an employee at the Terengganu Sports Complex, and wife, Nur Syuhada Mokhtar, 31, are really active in sports and always bring their child along for such activities.

The boy’s grandfather, Mokhtar Che Mat, 64, was also a participant and has been into cycling for the past five years.

“Age is no obstacle to cycle and my interest bloomed when the younger ones showed an interest,” he said.

Meanwhile, private sector employee, Rosham Mat Ramli, 39, said he was excited about the programme as it was his first ride event.

The programme, he shared, provided him with a new experience and showed him that this could actually be his hobby as the memory of cycling together for 25 km was a very great experience.

The participants of the ride were bursting with excitement during the flag off, which was attended by Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

The event had two categories, a 25 km ride and a 13 km ride, and took riders through several locations around the town including the Kristal Mosque Bridge and Pantai Batu Buruk before ending at the finish line at the Terengganu Motor Circuit.

2021 South East Asian (SEA) Games gold medallists Zulfikri Zulkifli (mountain bike cyclist), Ahmad Syazrin Awang Ilah (national BMX racer) and Nur Aiman Mohd Zariff (professional cyclist) were also present at the event.
