ISKANDAR PUTERI: A total of 13 students of the Muar Integrated Religious Primary School suffered from stomach pain, believed to be due to food poisoning yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon stated that the students experienced food poisoning after consuming meals prepared at the school canteen. The affected students, ranging from standard one to standard six, have received medical treatment at various healthcare facilities, including government clinics, hospitals, and a couple of private hospitals.
Ling Tian Soon assured that none of the students displayed severe symptoms and that all of them were discharged after receiving the necessary treatment. Speaking to reporters outside the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting at the Sultan Ismail Building, he emphasized that the situation was under control.
District health officers have conducted an inspection of the school canteen, collecting food samples for laboratory testing. The result
s of these tests are expected to be available within a week. In the meantime, the district health office has mandated the temporary closure of the canteen for a two-week period to facilitate cleaning operations.
Ling Tian Soon mentioned that once the cleaning is completed, district health officers will perform a thorough investigation. Should they find everything satisfactory, the canteen will be permitted to resume operations.
