TENOM, Tenom coffee has the potential becoming a new source of wealth if it is developed into an agro-based industry, said Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP) chairman Datuk Mazlan Aliman.
This golden opportunity should be seized by the Tenom Regional Farmers Association (PPK), he said.
“That is why I recommend Tenom PPK to make Tenom’s coffee product as a core business.
“I hope that the involvement of Tenom PPK in the coffee industry will gain the support of the ministry and the relevant departments and agencies,” he said in his speech at the opening ceremony of the Tenom PPK Office Building here today.
The RM2.6 million building was officiated by Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, Datuk Salahuddin Ayub.
Mazlan noted that Tenom and its coffee plantations have become tourist attractions and now a source of income for the locals.
He urged Tenom PPK and its members to make use of opportunities available as demand was high for Tenom coffee products, not only locally but internationally.
Mazlan called on the farmers association to continue enhancing the agro-food sector and strengthen the farmers’ socio-economic status.
Meanwhile, Tenom Member of Parliament Noorita Sual said agriculture was now a business and not just cottage-based work.
As such, she urged Tenom folks to consider making agriculture as their new source of wealth.
