Individual Investor Program Continues its Success: Over US$ 330 Million of Capital Attracted to Malta in 6 Months

LONDON, Aug. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

Malta's Individual Investor Program (IIP) continues to build upon its significant early success.

The IIP is a modern citizenship-by-investment program aimed at ultra-high net worth individuals and families worldwide. It was designed and is operated by Henley & Partners for the Government of Malta under a Public Services Concession.

The IIP allows for the grant of citizenship to duly qualified, reputable foreign individuals and families who make a significant contribution to the economic development of Malta.

Over 200 applications for citizenship have been received since the program's launch in early 2014, with a number already at the Due Diligence phase. This represents a commitment of foreign direct investment into Malta of over 200 million Euros or 330 million US Dollars over the last six months.

The IIP has the world's strictest Due Diligence standards, ensuring that only highly respectable clients will be admitted. The program intake is also capped at 1,800 successful main applicants, after which the program will close, making this the most exclusive program globally.

There are over 30 nationalities represented among the applicants so far.

Identity Malta chief executive officer, Jonathan Cardona, commented on Henley & Partners' role, "Their excellent services are attracting to Malta the type of individuals that the government wanted to target through the IIP, with the potential of significant investment in our country".

Many applicants started the IIP process intending to rent property on Malta, but are now considering purchasing, having spent time on the islands. Mr Cardona confirmed that a number of applicants were opting to buy property. He added that the investment interest was quite wide-ranging, from hotels and real estate, to factories, IT and the film industry.

A private client, who wished to remain anonymous, shared the reason he proceeded with the IIP, "I liked the idea of becoming European and providing my children the right to travel without hassle, and to also live, work and study anywhere in Europe."

B-Secure Technologies Developing Corporate Wellness Platform to Engage and Reward Users of Fitness Trackers

  1. Users wear the Jawbone UP, and start exercising and going about their daily activities. The device will automatically tracks steps and sleep.
  2. At the end of the day, user syncs the Jawbone UP with companion mobile application
  3. Rewalkz.Me will retrieve the synced information such as steps, calories burnt
  4. Using a formula, steps will be converted to points and rewards can be redeemed based on accumulated points
  5. Rewards for employees can range from shopping vouchers from participating merchants to dining vouchers from the company itself

Rewalkz.Me is designed to work with any fitness tracker which allows 3rd party services to access user information (with user permission), so it is compatible with others such as Fitbit, Nike+ FuelBand or even a mobile application such as Moves. In addition to tracking the number of steps, the platform allows the administrator to set up challenges and missions to pit users against each other and also has a leader board. This form of gamification is targeted to promote more engagement amongst users so as to sustain the use of the fitness trackers. Research has shown that typically, individual users of fitness trackers give up using after six months, mainly due to lack of engagement.

The platform can also be linked to other 3rd party services such as Strava, which is popular among cyclists and BSTMobile is in talks with several sports related portals which are looking to increase engagement among their users.

UK University and ACCA Offer Free Business Course to People of Hong Kong

Innovative study concept means anyone can study business without leaving Hong Kong

HONG KONG, Aug. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A new initiative, due to launch in September, will allow anyone in Hong Kong or anywhere in the world to study business for free at a renowned UK university, thanks to a collaboration between global accountancy body ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), the University of Exeter Business School and online learning platform FutureLearn.

Together, they are launching a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) -- Discovering Business in Society -- which is free to study and open to anyone in the world with access to the internet. The aim of the eight-week course is to give anyone interested in learning the principles of business, including prospective undergraduate students, working professionals without a background in business, people looking to return to work after an absence, or anyone seeking to further educate themselves. And for those interested in entering the finance profession and seeking a route to ACCA membership, the MOOC can be a starting point.
