KUCHING: Staff members of the Ministry of Local Government and Housing must strive to deliver their best towards fulfilling the aspiration and also the high expectations of the people, says minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
He reminds them not just ‘look and wait’.
We need to be efficient and quick in responding to any complaint or serving customers’ needs. I hope you all can think outside the box to be more efficient, he spoke during his ministry’s awards presentation dinner on Friday.
Dr Sim said although the ministry’s staff members only work seven months not including weekends, public holidays and paid public holidays the Sarawak government still pays them full pay for 12 months, plus the recent bonus.
As such, the minister called upon them to do more in delivering services to the stakeholders and to ensure that the organisation would remain relevant to the people.
On the event, Dr Sim said he was pleased about all local governments in Sarawak having achieved good ratings in last year’s assessment with five obtaining 5-Star ratings, nine getting 4-Star ratings, and 12 receiving 3-Star ratings.
With the award, the officers will work harder in their jobs.
Meanwhile, the ministry’s permanent secretary Bakrie Zaini expressed his hope for the local government to continue to be responsive in collaborating with the local community so that the culture of cooperation would be stronger, towards ensuring a safe, healthy and peaceful living environment.
It is learnt that as at November this year, RM2.6 million had been channelled to 23 local governments for hosting 195 community-building programmes.
At the event, 235 staff members from the ministry and 23 local governments received excellence awards, 26 local governments received star-ratings awards, and there were nine recipients of the ‘Smart Community Project Awards’. Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil was also present.
