Sarawak JAKM: Visitors flock to Jualan Keluarga Malaysia booth despite rain

KUCHING, Aug 5 (Bernama) — The rain did not stop visitors to the Jelajah Aspirasi Keluarga Malaysia (JAKM), or Malaysian Family Aspirations Tour, here, to make a beeline for the Jualan Keluarga Malaysia booth to get supplies of essential goods at cheaper prices.

As of 11 am today, more than 40 per cent of the goods have been sold with cooking oil in one-kg packets, chicken eggs and raw chicken being the best-selling items, said Arif Kwan who is the commercial director of Everise, a supermarket involved in the Jualan Keluarga Malaysia programme.

He said to ensure that every visitor gets a chance to purchase the goods, buying limits are set for each transaction.

“We impose a limit on the purchase of cooking oil to three packets per person, as well as two raw chickens and a box of chicken eggs for each customer,” he said today.

Meanwhile, deputy director of the Sarawak branch of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry Peter J. Berinus Agang said the Jualan Keluarga Malaysia programme gave the opportunity to people to purchase various daily necessities at prices lower than the market rate.

Haminah Dan, 69, said she and her husband Ramli Arabi, 70, were willing to endure long queues just to purchase cooking oil and chicken eggs at cheaper prices.
