Putra Heights Fire: ICU Patient’s Condition Improving – Dzulkefly


Putrajaya: The condition of a man who was seriously injured in the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, on April 1 is improving, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. He noted that the 21-year-old man remains on a ventilator but has shown signs of progress at a private hospital.



According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dzulkefly shared that medical reports indicate the patient’s condition is slightly better. He encouraged the public to pray for the man’s recovery, stating, “He is intubated but improving; now on inotropes, which are also showing better response.” These comments were made during a press conference following the launch of the World Physical Activity Day celebration, in conjunction with the Car-Free Day initiative in Putrajaya.



Dzulkefly also provided an update on other victims receiving medical care, revealing that as of yesterday, 30 people remain hospitalized in both public and private facilities. Specifically, 17 victims are in private hospitals, 13 in Ministry of Health hospitals, and one case in the ICU of a private hospital.



The fire and explosion of the Petronas gas pipeline resulted in flames reaching over 30 metres high, with temperatures peaking at 1,000 degrees Celsius. Firefighters worked for nearly eight hours to bring the blaze under control. The incident caused extensive damage, destroying 81 houses with structural damage exceeding 40 percent, partially destroying another 81 homes, affecting 57 houses without burning them, and leaving 218 homes unaffected.



Previously, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that a complete report on the fire is expected by mid-May.
