PM’S MEETING WITH P-HAILING COMPANIES TO DISCUSS RIDERS’ LOW RATES PROOF OF GOVT’S CONCERN

The word given by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that he will set up a meeting with p-hailing companies in a week’s time to address the issue of low commission rates for p-hailing riders is proof of government’s concern and commitment to resolving workers’ problems.

Most p-hailing riders met by Bernama after the ‘Himpunan Rider MADANI Selangor’ programme here today expressed hope that the meeting would address the issue that have been plaguing them so quite some time.

Putra Muhamad Luqmanul Hakim Zahid for one said the proposed meeting between Anwar and the p-hailing companies is indeed a good initiative to ensure the workers’ voices are heard, and subsequently, a win-win solution can be reached.

“I do hope that the meeting will discuss and find the solution to the low commission rate issues so that the delivery riders will not be so burdened and pressured,” said Luqmanul Hakim, who has been in the industry for two years.

Another rider, Syafiq Norlan said the discussion is hoped to assist p-hailing riders in obtaining fair commission for their hard work.

He also thanked the Prime Minister for the efforts made.

Meanwhile, another rider Logesh Kumar said the Prime Minister’s announcement that the government will allocate RM1 million to set up the committee that will become the official platform for the riders to air their grouses, is also a good step to ensure their welfare.

“It’s good (to have the committee). At least we (riders) will have our representatives to talk to the government, to voice out our problems and find the best solutions for us,” said Logesh who had been p-hailing rider for the past two years.

At the Temu Anwar session during the ‘Himpunan Rider MADANI Selangor’ programme earlier today, Anwar asked for a week for him to meet with companies engaging food and parcel delivery riders to discuss the riders’ commission rates claimed to have been reduced of late.

At the event attended by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and about 5,000 p-hailing riders from throughout the state, the Prime Minister said he wants a clear explanation directly from the companies on the issue, which p-hailing riders say has become a burden.

Anwar said the government had also allocated RM1 million to appoint an informal secretariat to coordinate issues related to p-hailing in an effort to ensure the welfare of workers in the industry is taken care of.
