PKMT- Platform to unite diverse community in Tawau

TAWAU, Sept 4 (Bernama) — The National Association of Tawau Malays (PKMT), which is one of the oldest associations in Sabah, can be a platform to unite the diverse community in the district, said Sabah Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan.

He said PKMT was established in 1938 with the aim of safeguarding the welfare of the Malays, especially in terms of their socio-economy and education.

“We have to join hands to preserve this association so that it survives and PKMT can continue the struggle to unite the plural society in this district,” said Nizam, who is PKMT patron when speaking at the association’s annual general meeting here today.

Nizam, who is Apas Assemblyman, also announced an allocation of RM10,000, in addition to the monthly RM2,000 contribution, for the association.

Meanwhile, PKMT president Kee Mohd Ayub Kee Abu Bakar said the association planned to build a hall on Jalan Kuhara to provide a venue for the association to hold its activities.
