New home for wild elephant captured in Gua Musang

GUA MUSANG, Jan 9 (Bernama) — A wild male elephant which had been roaming around Kampung Sungai Bayu and caught by the Wildlife and National Park (Perhilitan) of Kelantan last Friday has been transferred to the Terengganu National Park.

The operation to transfer the elephant aged between 15 and 18 years and weighing about two metric tonnes was conducted with the help of two decoy elephants “Abot” and “Rambai” from the Kuala Gandah National Elephant Conservation Centre, Pahang.

Kelantan Perlihitan deputy-director Adnan Ismail said the department immediately acted on complaints from villagers as the elephant had been wandering around the village for several weeks.
