New governor of South Kazakhstan region appointed
Bishkek (AKIpress) – Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev appointed Beibut Atamkulov the new governor of South Kazakhstan region, the presidential press service announced.
Atamkulov replaced Askar Myrzakhmetov, who has been appointed first deputy chairman of the Nur Otan political party of Nursultan Nazarbayev.
Beibut Atamkulov has previously held the positions of the Consul General of Kazakhstan in Frankfurt, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Malaysia and Indonesia. His latest position was Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Kazakhstan.
Askar Myrzakhmetov was the governor of South Kazakhstan region since 2009. He held the positions of Counsellor of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and First Vice Minister of Agriculture between 1997 and 2006. He was ambassador to Uzbekistan in 2006 and 2007.
